Environmental Campaign Coordinator

Are you an ambitious organizer with activist experience looking to become a leader within the environmental movement? Do you want to train other activists and see your impact spread beyond yourself?

Clean Water Action is dedicated to building a movement of strong environmental leaders. For that purpose, we are hiring experienced activists that wish to grow within the organization and the movement. 

In order to make real progress on issues that we care about we need to build a grassroots people-powered movement. People-power is built when hundreds and thousands of folks come together and make their voices heard. And that’s the kind of work we do at Clean Water Action and Field Managers play a critical role ensuring the success of Clean Water Action’s grassroots campaigns.

You will expand your community organizing skills while helping run a successful grassroots campaign, including, but not limited to, staff management, donor recruitment, sustainability initiatives, public policy, and strategic campaign planning.

Clean Water Action is a non-profit environmental political advocacy group founded during the passage of the landmark Clean Water Act in 1972. 

Our mission is to protect our environment, health, and quality of life for all communities. Clean Water Action advocates for strong environmental policy on the local, state and national level through coalition building and grassroots pressure. For 50 years Clean Water Action has succeeded in winning some of the nation's most important environmental protections through grassroots organizing and political advocacy focused on holding elected officials accountable to the public.

Responsibilities of a Clean Water Action Field Manager 

  • Run skills trainings on effective canvassing and campaigning techniques

  • Evaluate staff performance and give ongoing feedback

  • Assist with strategic campaign planning pertaining to community engagement 

  • Participate in daily briefings to learn more about the issues and strengthen your skills.

  • Train, develop, and manage a crew of canvass staff to do high quality community organizing.

  • Report to and work with the Canvass Director to recommend who is hired, fired, promoted.

  • Analyze crew and individual performance, make recommendations for improvement.

  • Carry out administrative, logistic, and financial management responsibilities as necessary to run efficient and safe crews.

  • Meet/exceed all canvassing and organizing standards. Understand, educate, and hold staff accountable to organizational policies and procedures.


  • Must be located in the Bay Area.

  • Must have strong communication skills.

  • Must be committed to the cause of diversity, equity, justice and inclusion.

  • Experience with canvassing, fundraising or political organizing is preferred, leadership experience a plus!

  • You are passionate about social justice and able to communicate this passion to others. 

  • You are able to work independently and lead teams with a goal oriented mindset. 

  • You understand the importance of the anti-racist movement and are willing to learn more and teach others about cultural competency.
