Job SummaryUnder the direction and oversight of the Laboratory Director and Laboratory Manager, or designee, within the scope of Unlicensed Laboratory Personnel as described in B&PC 1269, receives and processes specimens and performs clerical tasks under general supervision of a licensed person as authorized by the California lab law.Job SummaryUnder the direction and oversight of the Laboratory Director and Laboratory Manager, or designee, within the scope of Unlicensed Laboratory Personnel as described in B&PC 1269, receives and processes specimens and performs clerical tasks under general supervision of a licensed person as authorized by the California lab law.Essential FunctionsPrior to phlebotomy, registers patients and assesses, for age group and other factors.Chooses appropriate phlebotomy technique and determines whether assistance will be required.May be required to draw blood into computerized systems.Enters data such as released test results, patient demographics, physician's name and test requested.Relays results to staff as required.Prepares specimens for testing.Prepares stains and reagents.Process specimens to include receiving, sorting, matching, prioritizing, labeling, and shipping.Maintains printers and faxes, time stamps, and other equipment in the work area.Answers telephones and relays released test results.Registers patients, and collects fees and bills.Gives patients instructions and provides specimen containers.Trains and orients new employees as necessary.Performs other related duties as necessary.This job has no supervisory responsibilitiesBasic QualificationsSix (6) months of experience preferred.High School Diploma/GED.California Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) license if job requires blood drawing.Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.Ability to write simple correspondence.Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and otheremployees of the organization.Also, refer to Position Specifications outlined in the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.Primary Location:California,Oakland,Oakland HospitalScheduled Weekly Hours:1Shift:DayWorkdays:Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, SatWorking Hours Start:06:00 AMWorking Hours End:07:30 PMJob Schedule:Call-in/On-CallJob Type:StandardWorker Location:OnsiteEmployee Status:RegularEmployee Group/Union Affiliation:A04|OPEIU|Local 29Job Level:Entry LevelDepartment:Oakland Hospital - Pathology/Lab-Clinical Lab - 0206Pay Range:$37.47 - $40.2 / hourKaiser Permanente strives to offer a market competitive total rewards package and is committed to pay equity and transparency.
