Job SummaryIn consultation with department management but working with a high degree of independence, applies in-depth knowledge of department requirements to determine the courses to be taught by the department / school / college toward the graduate degree. Takes into consideration the proper sequencing of courses for progression toward degree, courses taught in other departments, and other complicating factors. Makes recommendations for replacement courses. Work is reviewed by results achieved. The Course Assistant is responsible for assisting the Master of Science course leader(s) in all activities that support the course planning, conduct, and evaluation of the MS courses. This effort involves conducting curriculum planning and course scheduling in consultation with department / college / school management and faculty the MS faculty and the Program Director. Also manages the curriculum mapping process using course syllabi and Illios course management tool. We work in more than 50 countries and partner with academic centers, international organizations, ministries of health, private industries and others to effectively deliver UCSF's promise of advancing health worldwide.DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS20%: Working with a high degree of independence, in consultation with Program Director and course faculty, plans courses and timelines for courses to be offered each term based upon program requirements, enrollment trends, course restrictions, and faculty availability.10%: Recommends to department management replacement courses when necessary.10%: Projects future course planning based upon faculty availability, taking into account sabbaticals, fellowships and grants, internal and external administrative assignments, and courses taught in other departments and/or other universities.10%: Devises solutions to classroom space and scheduling problems, taking into account the curriculum needs of students, the needs of faculty, and available options.20%: Advises department / school / college chair / dean on complex curricular issues and recommends courses of action when new courses, programs are introduced. Regularly updates and tracks courses against MS program curriculum map. Alerts Program leadership of potentially missing or unmet course objectives.5%: Utilizing extensive knowledge of course content, facilitates new course approval and curriculum revisions through interaction with the Coordination of College Policy, Academic Senate, or similar organization.15%: Researches and analyzes academic and program trends that may impact course offerings and curriculum. Participates in the development of program assessment tools to evaluate program objectives and relevance.10%: Provides assistance to program faculty in the form of managing student attendance and enrollment in courses, identifying education technology needs and other course support functions as identified by the Program Director.Required QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Global Health and 3+ years of experience or equivalent experience/trainingDemonstrated experience in global health policy analysis, development and leadershipExperience in research methods and academic writing skillsExperience facilitating course instructionExcellent communication and analytical skillsAbility to work with a variety of people in a complex environmentPreferred QualificationsMS in Global Health and/or equivalent experience / training.Thorough knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.Thorough knowledge of department, organization, and University policies, procedures, and directives.Thorough knowledge of department and school / college general and major course and degree requirements.Strong interpersonal skills to work with and gain trust from department senior management, faculty, and students.Proven ability in problem identification, reasoning, analysis to identify trends.Proven ability to find solutions to conflicting situations.Salary InformationThe final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
