General Counsel Opportunity At nOps

nOps is the leading automated FinOps platform for cloud cost optimization, managing over $4B in annual cloud spend for companies from fast growing startups to global enterprises across AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. The team is looking for a hands on General Counsel to own legal end to end as the company continues to scale.

The Role

  • Serves as the company's first dedicated legal lead, owning all legal matters across nOps.
  • Partners closely with Finance, Sales, People, and Product to keep deals moving and the business protected.
  • Manages outside counsel relationships and brings the right work in house as the company grows.
  • Operates as a strategic business partner to the executive team, not a gatekeeper.

Responsibilities

Commercial Contracts

  • Owns the full commercial contract lifecycle, including customer MSAs, order forms, NDAs, SOWs, and data processing agreements.
  • Negotiates directly with enterprise customers and their procurement and security teams.
  • Reviews and negotiates vendor, partner, and reseller agreements, including cloud provider and CSP relationships.
  • Builds and maintains contract templates, playbooks, and a self serve library so the GTM team can move faster.

Corporate and Governance

  • Manages corporate governance, board materials, and entity matters.
  • Supports financing rounds, equity administration, and cap table maintenance in partnership with Finance.
  • Maintains corporate records and ensures compliance with state and federal filings.

Compliance, Privacy, and Security

  • Owns privacy and data protection compliance, including GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Partners with Security on SOC 2, ISO 27001, and other certification efforts.
  • Manages customer DPAs, sub-processor lists, and privacy policies.
  • Tracks regulatory developments relevant to FinOps, cloud, and SaaS.

Employment, IP, and Risk

  • Advises People and leadership on employment law, including hiring, terminations, offer letters, and employee disputes.
  • Manages IP strategy, including trademark filings, patent considerations, and IP protection.
  • Oversees litigation and dispute resolution with outside counsel as needed.
  • Identifies and mitigates legal risk across the business.

Requirements

  • JD from an accredited law school and active bar admission in at least one US state.
  • 5 to 10 years of legal experience, with a mix of top tier law firm and in house experience preferred.
  • Strong commercial contracting background, ideally with B2B SaaS or cloud software experience.
  • Comfortable being the sole legal lead at a growth stage company, with experience scaling a legal function from scratch.
  • Excellent commercial judgment and ability to balance legal risk with business priorities.
  • Comfortable working cross functionally with sales, finance, product, and people teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with executive level stakeholders.
  • Self directed operator who thrives in a fast moving, build it yourself environment.

Nice to Have

  • In house experience at a Series B or later B2B SaaS or cloud company.
  • Familiarity with FinOps, cloud cost optimization, observability, or related infrastructure or DevOps categories.
  • Experience supporting partnership and channel motions with hyperscalers like AWS, Microsoft, or GCP.
  • Experience with M&A, financing rounds, and equity administration.
  • Privacy certifications such as CIPP or experience standing up a SOC 2 program.
