Deeply woven into the fabric of San Francisco, the Mark Hopkins reflects the city's spirit of innovation, resilience, and hospitality while preserving the heritage that has made it one of the most iconic destinations on the West Coast.Joining our team means becoming part of a nearly century-long legacy of creating memorable experiences in one of the world's most celebrated cities.As our new Director, Banquet Operations, you could be leading the charge to ensure our guests enjoy a truly memorable experience - whether they've worked up an appetite for a full conference banquet or are joining us to celebrate an incredible occasion.A little taste of your day-to-day:Event Execution & Operational ExcellenceLead end-to-end banquet operations, ensuring seamless execution of meetings, weddings, galas, and VIP eventsPartner closely with Culinary, Sales & Events, and Stewarding teams to deliver cohesive, high-quality experiencesConduct pre-shift briefings and pre-event meetings to align teams on expectations, timing, and service standardsOversee room setup, service flow, and breakdown-ensuring adherence to event orders (BEOs) and brand standardsAnticipate guest needs and resolve concerns with professionalism and urgencyLeadership & Team DevelopmentInspire, coach, and develop a diverse banquet team, fostering a culture of accountability and service excellenceLead by example on the floor-visible, engaged, and guest-focusedSupport recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training to build a high-performing teamManage scheduling in alignment with business levels, labor budgets, and collective bargaining agreements, coordinate with labor partners for as needed temporary staff.Guest Experience & Relationship ManagementServe as a primary point of contact during events, ensuring a personalized and elevated guest experienceBuild strong relationships with clients, event planners, and internal stakeholdersHandle VIP and high-profile events with discretion and attention to detailFinancial & Administrative OversightMonitor labor and operational costs to meet or exceed financial targetsReview and approve payroll, productivity, and staffing models to drive efficiencyEnsure accurate billing and reconciliation of banquet checksMaintain compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standardsCompliance & StandardsUphold all company policies, brand standards, and local/state regulationsEnsure adherence to safety protocols, food handling guidelines, and responsible alcohol serviceMaintain readiness for inspections and auditsWhat We need from you:Bachelor's degree / higher education qualification / equivalent in Hotel Management, culinary arts, or related field4-5+ years of banquet or food & beverage leadership experience in a luxury hotel or upscale venueProven ability to manage large-scale, high-volume events with precision and composureStrong leadership presence with a passion for developing teamsExceptional communication and interpersonal skillsFinancial acumen with experience managing labor and cost controlsKnowledge of banquet operations systems and event planning tools preferredFlexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as business demandsPreferred Attributes:Experience in a union environment strongly preferredBilingual (Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese) a plusDeep appreciation for luxury service standards and guest personalizationDetail-oriented with a proactive, solutions-driven mindsetWhat you can expect from us:We give our people everything they need to succeed.
