Genomics Lab Contractor | South San Francisco, CA

We are supporting a leading biotech organisation in South San Francisco seeking a Genomics Lab Contractor to join their research operations team on a 12-month W2 contract. This role sits at the intersection of lab science, sequencing operations, and vendor coordination, supporting high-throughput genomics workflows in a fast-paced R&D environment.

Hourly rate: $50-55/hr

Key Responsibilities

Sequencing & Vendor Management

  • Manage outsourcing of sequencing samples to external providers, ensuring timely, high-quality data delivery
  • Act as the main liaison with sequencing vendors and troubleshoot issues with sample processing or data return
  • Track sample submission, receipt, and sequencing data flow across projects

Lab Operations & Inventory

  • Maintain inventory of reagents, consumables, and sequencing supplies
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance, calibration, and vendor servicing
  • Support operational continuity of in-house sequencing platforms

Sequencing QC & Sample Handling

  • Assist with sample pooling and multiplexing using standard barcoding strategies
  • Perform QC checks pre- and post-sequencing (run quality, signal, data integrity)
  • Support troubleshooting of sequencing runs as needed

Molecular Biology Support

  • Execute molecular cloning workflows (restriction digestion, ligation, Gibson/Gateway assembly)
  • Perform PCR, primer design, mutagenesis, bacterial transformation, and plasmid prep
  • Validate constructs using gel electrophoresis, restriction digest, and Sanger sequencing

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of samples, workflows, and vendor communications
  • Provide regular project updates to internal stakeholders

Requirements

  • Experience with genomic sequencing workflows and QC principles
  • Strong hands-on molecular biology skills (PCR, cloning, plasmid prep, gel electrophoresis, bacterial transformation)
  • Experience handling DNA/RNA samples
  • Strong organisation, communication, and documentation skills
  • Biology-related degree preferred
