Insight Global is partnering with a large local utility as they continue to expand their Electric Engineering organization to support increased electricity demand driven by AI-focused data centers, electric vehicle adoption, and major grid modernization initiatives.

The Transmission Project Engineer will join the Transmission Engineering department and support the delivery of transmission line projects across the full lifecycle. This role combines engineering analysis, conceptual design, and project coordination, with strong exposure to real-world utility project execution.

This is a strong opportunity for engineers with transmission line experience—especially overhead systems—who want to deepen their impact in utility-scale infrastructure and grow into project ownership and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Analysis & Design

  • Perform engineering analyses and studies to support transmission line projects
  • Develop conceptual designs for new builds, reconductoring, and system upgrades
  • Prepare technical documentation including design criteria, scope documents, specifications, and reports
  • Interpret and apply applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements

Project Execution & Coordination

  • Plan and execute work independently under general direction to meet project commitments
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently depending on scope and complexity
  • Collaborate with internal project teams, contractors, and external stakeholders
  • Present findings and technical solutions to internal teams and external partners

Field & Design Review Support

  • Conduct field walkdowns and participate in design review meetings
  • Evaluate constructability and ensure alignment with system requirements
  • Support restoration planning and system reliability initiatives
  • Respond to facility failures when needed

Consultant & Contractor Oversight

  • Solicit, evaluate, and support contracts with engineering consultants
  • Review consultant deliverables for technical accuracy and compliance
  • Provide guidance to contractors and design teams
  • Approve reports, drawings, and revisions for project execution

Problem Solving & Ownership

  • Analyze project issues and provide well-supported recommendations
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for system issues
  • Apply sound engineering judgment to develop practical and cost-effective solutions
  • Take ownership of project challenges and drive resolution

Technical Environment

  • Utility-scale transmission line projects (overhead and undergrounding exposure possible)
  • Strong focus on reconductoring, rebuilds, and new transmission development
  • Application of NESC and utility standards across project design and execution
  • Tools such as PLS-CADD for transmission line analysis and design
  • Cross-functional collaboration across engineering, project management, construction, and regulatory teams
  • Hybrid environment with both office-based engineering and field engagement

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline
  2. 3+ years of experience in engineering and design, with transmission experience preferred
  3. Experience supporting electric transmission projects (overhead strongly preferred)
  4. Experience using PLS-CADD
  5. Strong understanding of project team roles and responsibilities
  6. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
  7. Strong collaboration and communication skills
  8. Ability to interpret codes, standards, and regulations
  9. Strong problem-solving skills and sound engineering judgment

Nice to Have Experience (Not Required)

  • Active California Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience with undergrounding projects

What Makes This Opportunity Stand Out?

  • Direct involvement in large-scale transmission projects tied to grid modernization and future energy demand
  • Strong balance of technical engineering work and real-world project execution
  • Exposure to high-visibility infrastructure supporting data centers, EV adoption, and system upgrades
  • Clear opportunity to grow into higher ownership roles within transmission engineering and project leadership

$145,600- $166,400 per year
