Description:

Job Overview

Job ID: 10377544 | Amazon Web Services, Inc.

Do you want to work in Relational Database Service (RDS) for PostgreSQL which is one of the fastest‑growing AWS businesses? PostgreSQL is the only DBMS that has been named the database of the year 3 times by DB‑Engines. It is a fast‑growing database in the industry where related expertise and experience is highly sought after. Our Database Engineering Team for RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL builds, improves and manages PostgreSQL as a fully managed database service. This role is not a typical DBA or DBE role; instead, you are a core database engineer working closely with developers, product and program managers, contributing throughout the entire product cycle: feature brainstorming, design, implementation, validation, and customer escalation.

Key Responsibilities

  • You work closely with customers to understand their challenges, solve issues during critical escalations, and teach best practices.
  • Acting as the “voice of the customer,” you bring learnings to the engineering process to design new features and plan end‑to‑end test scenarios. Shaping the direction of the RDS service makes it easier to understand how our service is used by database developers and administrators.
  • You actively drive feature enhancements, permanently resolve root causes of issues, and improve the performance of our managed database service.
  • You are viewed as the ultimate subject‑matter expert for all things databases; your expertise is highly sought by the development team, support team, account team, and customers directly.
  • You interact with the open‑source community via forums, conferences, and feature or bug‑fix code submissions.
  • You will extend your knowledge to other database engines and not be limited to PostgreSQL.
  • As you design and code solutions to drive efficiencies in software architecture, you'll build metrics, implement automation, and resolve the root cause of software defects.
  • Build high‑impact solutions for our large customer base, participate in design discussions and code reviews, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work cross‑functionally to help drive business decisions with your technical input, in a startup‑like environment where you work on the most important things.

Day in the Life

As part of the day, you will design and code solutions, implement automation, build metrics, resolve defects, participate in design discussions, review code, and collaborate with stakeholders in a fast‑paced, startup‑like setting.

Qualifications

  • DBE experience (database engineer background).
  • Bachelor's degree.

The base salary range for this position is 145,900.00 – 197,400.00 USD annually. Locations include Dallas, TX and Redmond, WA.
