Product Operations Analyst

2026-04-28     The Sage Group     San Francisco,CA
Description:

The Sage Group's client, a beloved technology company in the delivery space, is lookingfor a sharp, resourceful operator to embed directly with our client's Commerce Platform growth team. This isn't a "sit in meetings and make slides" role — you'll be in the weeds every day, doing the work that directly moves the sales pipeline and uncovers what's actually happening with merchants on the ground. You'll talk to real merchants, dig into real data, and build real systems that help them scale faster. The work is varied, fast-paced, and high-impact: one day you're analyzing conversion drop-off in their sales funnel, the next you're on the phone with a merchant understanding why they churned, the next you're building an automated outreach sequence. This is a great fit if you're the kind of person who'd rather find the answer than wait for someone to tell you, and who gets satisfaction from turning messy, manual work into something structured and repeatable.

What You'll Do

  • Merchant outreach & discovery — Call and email merchants to understand their experience, surface pain points, and gather qualitative signal that doesn't show up in dashboards
  • Sales call analysis — Listen to recorded sales calls, tag patterns, and synthesize trends that help the team sharpen positioning and address objections
  • Outreach sequence building — Design and execute email sequences in our client's outreach tooling (they'll train you on the platform — you bring the writing chops and experimentation mindset)
  • Funnel analysis & opportunity identification — Look at the sales funnel end-to-end, find where deals stall or drop, and propose concrete actions to improve conversion at each stage
  • Ad hoc analysis & operations — Whatever the team needs to move faster. If there's a manual bottleneck slowing them down, you're the person who fixes it.

What We're Looking For

  • Analytical and numerate — You're comfortable in spreadsheets and can look at a funnel or dataset and quickly spot what matters. You don't need a BI tool to tell you something is off.
  • Detail-oriented — You catch the things other people miss. When you hand off work, it's clean and accurate.
  • Self-driven — You don't need to be managed closely. Give you context on the goal and you'll figure out the path.
  • Strong communicator — You can talk to merchants on the phone without a script, write clear emails, and summarize findings in a way that's immediately actionable.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity — The work will shift week to week based on what the team needs most. You're energized by that, not frustrated by it.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in sales ops, growth ops, BizOps, or consulting
  • Familiarity with outreach/sales engagement tools (Chorus, Outreach, Salesloft, Apollo, etc.)
  • Exposure to SMB or restaurant/merchant ecosystems
  • Basic data analysis experience
  • Familiarity with with AI tools e.g Claude

Education Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree is required. We look for academic backgrounds that demonstrate analytical rigor, communication ability, and comfort with ambiguity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Marketing, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field (required)
  • Advanced degree (MBA or Master's in a quantitative discipline) is a plus, but not required
  • Demonstrated academic or extracurricular achievement that shows initiative and independent thinking

Skills

  • Analytical & Technical
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet tools (Excel or Google Sheets), including pivot tables, lookups, and basic formulas
  • Ability to read and interpret sales funnel data, conversion metrics, and pipeline reports without needing heavy BI support
  • Comfortable structuring and organizing qualitative data (e.g., call notes, merchant feedback) into actionable summaries
  • Familiarity with CRM systems (Salesforce, HubSpot, or equivalent) and understanding of how pipeline data is structured
  • Basic experience with SQL or data querying tools is a plus; not required
  • Communication & Writing
  • Strong written communication skills — you can write a cold outreach email that gets responses and a synthesis doc that gets read
  • Comfortable speaking directly with merchants or customers on the phone without heavy scripting
  • Able to distill complex findings into a concise, executive-ready summary
  • Clear, direct communicator with teammates; comfortable flagging blockers early
  • Operations & Tools
  • Experience with or ability to quickly learn outreach/sales engagement platforms (Outreach, Salesloft, Apollo, or similar)
  • Comfortable using call recording and analysis tools (Chorus, Gong, or equivalent) to extract patterns from sales conversations
  • Familiarity with AI productivity tools (Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) to accelerate research, drafting, and analysis tasks
  • Able to build and manage lightweight workflows, trackers, and documentation independently

Requirements

  • Experience building or optimizing outreach or email sequences in a sales engagement tool
  • Background in consulting, BizOps, or a startup environment where priorities shifted frequently

  • Experience using AI tools to accelerate operational or analytical workflows
