Join an organization dedicated to improving our community through programs that provide equal access to legal services. The Justice & Diversity Center (JDC) of The Bar Association of San Francisco currently has an exciting opportunity for a Staff Attorney, Domestic Violence.


About JDC.....

JDC is a non-profit organization that provides free legal services to low-income and indigent San Francisco residents through staff and volunteer based services. Each year more than 1,900 volunteer attorneys, interpreters, law students and college students work with JDC staff to serve nearly 8,500 indigent clients. JDC's holistic advocacy approach seeks to address the social service of clients in addition to their legal needs.


The Staff Attorney, Domestic Violence will provide legal consultations and legal representation to domestic violence survivors in a range of family law matters before the San Francisco Unified Family Court. In addition to family law litigation, the Staff Attorney will provide trauma-informed representation in Domestic Violence Restraining Order matters.


  • Provide family law legal consultations and full-scope legal representation to family law litigants and survivors of domestic violence.
  • Collaborate closely with JDC Supervising Attorney and other project Staff Attorneys to ensure excellent legal advocacy.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining professionalism and peace of mind.
  • Exceptional litigation, writing, and legal research skills with attention to detail and case strategy.
  • Work closely with JDC staff on reassessment and adjustment of grant-funded project design and delivery of services.
  • Coordinate with grant partners to draft and submit quarterly and bi-annual reports.
  • Contribute to our collaborative team by working from JDC's San Francisco office a minimum of 2 days per week in addition to remote work and appearances at the San Francisco Superior Court
  • Ability to proactively manage work stress by establishing a healthy work-life balance and implementing self-care.


Education:

Must be member of the California State Bar in good standing.


Experience:

  • Excellent oral, written, and client service skills
  • Experience working with survivors of trauma and/or low-income communities preferred
  • Able to effectively and professionally interact with low-income clients, judges and court staff, co-workers, and staff at other nonprofits
  • Able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-pace team-oriented environment
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to communication in and understand Spanish preferred
