General Application - Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Component Design Engineer, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Remote or hybrid work will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The position is ideal for candidates with technical expertise in nuclear component design who are passionate about advancing safe, scalable nuclear technology.


You will work closely with our cross-functional team to support the design, analysis, and fabrication of Hadron's micro modular reactor. The role focuses on the design and mechanical integrity of structural components inside containment, ensuring all hardware meets rigorous nuclear industry codes and standards in a fast-paced startup environment.


Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed design, analysis, and documentation for reactor structures and pressure boundary components (vessels, piping, and supports).
  • Prepare, check, and certify Design Specifications and review Design Reports in accordance with ASME Section III requirements.
  • Prepare and review pressure boundary evaluations, including stress and fatigue evaluations.
  • Interface with multidisciplinary teams to define design requirements, optimize component performance, and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Collaborate with the licensing team to support domestic and international regulatory efforts, including 10 CFR 50.55a technical programs (Inservice Inspection and Testing).
  • Support the development of design and general arrangement drawings; provide review of fabrication drawings, weld requirements and material selection.
  • Propose innovative design solutions for next-generation advanced reactors, utilizing independent judgment to interpret project scope and requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and support the implementation of engineering standards across the organization.


Required Qualifications and Skillsets

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in equipment design or nuclear component engineering.
  • Deep understanding of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III, or similar (e.g. Section VIII Division 2)
  • Experience working under stringent quality assurance programs requirements such as ASME NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
  • Expertise in detail-oriented review of drawings, documents, and calculations to ensure consistency and technical rigor.
  • Registered professional engineer, or ability to obtain active license within 6-months
  • Appendix XXIII Certifying Engineer Qualification, or the ability to demonstrate and achieve this qualification within 12-months
  • Exceptional technical writing and oral communication skills; ability to create and interpret complex engineering reports and drawings.
