2026-04-22     Peabody Health Philanthropies     San Mateo,CA
Description:

About PHP

Peabody Health Philanthropies (PHP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on improving healthcare quality by reducing unwarranted variation in care. PHP uses its EQIS platform, an AI-enabled simulated patient and clinical quality improvement tool, and works with ministries of health, academic institutions, and global health partners to support measurable, sustainable improvements in care.

PHP is hiring a fundraising-first leader to help grow donor support, strengthen external messaging, and build the systems needed for disciplined development work. This is a high-ownership role for someone who can drive major gifts and foundation strategy while also producing strong donor-facing communications and fundraising collateral.

Role Overview

The primary responsibility of this role is to build and execute PHP's fundraising strategy. Communications responsibilities are centered on donor engagement, stewardship, and fundraising support rather than broad organizational marketing. The person in this role will lead major gifts and foundation development, write compelling donor-facing materials, and establish the operating cadence, CRM discipline, and reporting structure needed to support growth.

This role will help PHP turn strong mission, program substance, and partner momentum into a more durable fundraising engine. It is an opportunity to work closely with leadership, shape how PHP presents its impact to donors and partners, and build the development function at an important stage of growth.

Core Responsibilities

Major Gifts & Foundation Development

Partner with leadership to define annual fundraising priorities, goals, and an executable development plan.

Build and manage a major gifts and foundation pipeline from prospect research and outreach through cultivation, solicitation, closing, and stewardship.

Lead donor meeting preparation and follow-up, including briefing notes, proposals, impact summaries, and clearly defined next steps.

Develop stewardship cadences that help retain, deepen, and grow donor support over time.

Support gift processing and donor documentation practices consistent with nonprofit standards and donor intent.

Donor Communications & Fundraising Collateral

Own and execute a donor communications calendar and write high-quality content directly.

Draft donor emails, campaign appeals, stewardship updates, talking points, and meeting follow-up communications.

Create polished one-pagers, impact summaries, short decks, and other materials that strengthen donor and partner conversations.

Support PHP's external presence across priority channels, including LinkedIn and website content, with an emphasis on credibility, clarity, and fundraising relevance.

Fundraising Operations & Systems

Select, implement, or strengthen a CRM and maintain high-quality donor data, interaction notes, and next actions.

Establish lightweight fundraising operations, including pipeline reviews, weekly priorities, and concise reporting to leadership.

Build practical templates, process documentation, and internal rhythms that support repeatable execution.

Cross-Functional Leadership

Coordinate with internal teams to translate program work, results, and milestones into donor-ready narratives and materials.

Support small donor events or convenings, including communications, materials, and post-event follow-up.

Represent PHP professionally and warmly with donors, advisors, and partners as needed.

What Success Looks Like in the First 12 Months

A clear major gifts and foundation pipeline is built, staged, and actively managed.

High-priority donor and foundation relationships are advanced through coordinated outreach, proposals, follow-up, and stewardship.

A CRM is selected or strengthened, with clean records, consistent next steps, and reliable reporting for leadership.

PHP has a steady donor communications rhythm, including updates, briefing materials, one-pagers, and meeting collateral.

Fundraising priorities are translated into a practical annual plan with visible momentum and measurable progress.

Qualifications

Required

5+ years of relevant experience in development, fundraising, philanthropy, or a similarly high-accountability mission-driven environment.

Demonstrated success with major gifts and/or foundation relationships, including moving opportunities forward and helping close gifts.

Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce polished donor-facing communications quickly and independently.

Strong organizational discipline and comfort building systems, workflows, and reporting structures from the ground up.

Experience working in or alongside a CRM and maintaining clean, actionable donor records.

Professional judgment, warmth, and confidence in donor-facing settings.

Familiarity with 501(c)(3) fundraising norms, stewardship expectations, and donor intent considerations.

Preferred

Experience in global health, healthcare quality improvement, or technology-enabled social impact.

Experience in a small nonprofit or entrepreneurial environment where priorities move quickly and ownership is high.

Exposure to foundation fundraising, donor strategy, and external communications in the Bay Area or broader global health ecosystem.

Experience building repeatable fundraising processes, stewardship programs, or communications templates.

Work Expectations

Hybrid work cadence, with regular in-office time in San Francisco and flexibility for donor meetings, events, and relationship-building activities.

Participation in recurring PHP planning and staff meetings, including collaboration across teams working in multiple time zones.

Consistent documentation, proactive communication, and early escalation of risks to timelines or fundraising outcomes.

Occasional evening availability for donor events or meetings.

Location

Hybrid in the San Francisco Bay Area, with an expectation of approximately two in-office days per week in San Francisco

Compensation

$115,000-$150,000 (based on experience), plus bonus eligibility + medical benefits

Peabody Health Philanthropies is an equal opportunity employer and values a workplace that is inclusive, respectful, and mission-driven.
