Sheet Metal Fabricator
The Sheet Metal Fabricator cuts, shapes, and assembles thin metal sheets to produce high-quality components, HVAC ductwork, and structural parts based on engineering blueprints. This role operates a variety of fabrication machinery and hand tools, performs precise measurements, and ensures all finished products meet quality and specification standards.
Responsibilities
- Cut, shape, and form thin metal sheets to create components, HVAC ductwork, and structural assemblies according to engineering blueprints and technical drawings.
- Operate fabrication machinery such as press brakes, roller machines, and other shop equipment to bend, roll, and form metal components.
- Use hand tools, including chop saws and draw mills, to perform accurate cutting, trimming, and finishing of metal parts.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and shop sketches to determine material requirements, dimensions, and fabrication methods.
- Measure, mark, and lay out materials to ensure precise cuts and accurate component dimensions.
- Assemble metal parts using appropriate methods such as welding, riveting, or soldering to create complete units and structures.
- Inspect finished products for accuracy, quality, and compliance with specifications, making adjustments or rework as needed.
- Differentiate between aluminum and steel materials and adjust fabrication techniques and machine settings accordingly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and follow all safety procedures while operating machinery and tools.
- Perform basic maintenance checks on machines and tools to ensure proper operation and report any issues promptly.
Essential Skills
- At least 3 years of experience as a sheet metal fabricator or in a similar metal fabrication role.
- Proficiency in sheet metal fabrication techniques, including cutting, shaping, forming, and assembling metal components.
- Hands-on experience operating press brake machines for bending and forming sheet metal.
- Ability to safely and effectively use hand tools such as chop saws and draw mills in a fabrication environment.
- Experience working with roller machines to roll and form sheet metal components.
- Ability to distinguish and work with different metals, particularly aluminum and steel, and adjust processes accordingly.
- Capability to read and interpret engineering drawings and fabrication sketches to produce accurate parts.
- Strong measurement skills and attention to detail to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality of finished products.

- Experience using a variety of hand tools and shop equipment in a metal fabrication setting.
- Comfort working from technical drawings and blueprints, with the ability to identify potential issues before fabrication.

Work Environment
This role is based in a fabrication shop environment working with sheet metal, aluminum, and steel. You will regularly operate machinery such as press brakes, roller machines, chop saws, and draw mills, as well as a range of hand tools. The work involves standing for extended periods, handling metal materials, and working around active machinery and typical shop noise. Standard production hours apply, with the potential for additional hours based on workload. Appropriate workwear suitable for a fabrication shop is expected to support safety and comfort while working with tools and equipment.

This is a Contract position based out of Oakland, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
