About the Role A fast-scaling SaaS startup is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join a small, high-output engineering team tackling genuinely hard problems in cloud financial data. You'll own critical backend systems that make complex billing data accessible, reliable, and fast for enterprise customers, while staying connected to the frontend, data pipelines, and infra that power the product.

You'll collaborate daily with Product, Design, and data engineers, weigh in on architecture decisions, and help shape how the team builds and operates software. This is a high-ownership role at a company working in a market niche where the stakes are real and the technical bar is high.

***This role is hybrid in San Francisco, CA. Prospective candidates MUST be currently located in the Bay Area, CA ***

This role is unable to work on C2C requirements. This is a fulltime, W2 role

What You'll Do

• Design, extend, and operate backend services powering data-heavy product experiences
• Build and maintain APIs and backend workflows that frontend and data engineers can integrate with easily
• Work confidently against OLAP and OLTP data stores (PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, S3) to deliver low-latency, reliable APIs
• Own billing and financial data modeling, including performance, correctness, and observability
• Collaborate with data engineers on ETL and validation patterns that keep downstream experiences fast and trustworthy
• Help shape testing, CI/CD, and operational excellence for backend services
• Mentor teammates and contribute to raising the engineering bar across the stack

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of backend or full-stack engineering with a strong backend emphasis
• 3+ years of Python in production services
• Solid experience designing and consuming RESTful or JSON-based APIs (auth, pagination, error handling)
• Strong SQL and data modeling skills across transactional and analytical workloads
• Experience with data-heavy products where correctness and performance are non-negotiable
• Startup experience or a genuine ability to thrive in one
• Consideration of data quality and reliability in production

Nice to Have

• ClickHouse or other OLAP datastore experience
• Airflow or other orchestration tooling
• Distributed systems, event-driven architectures, or background job queues
• AWS experience (networking, IAM, serverless, containers, or data services)
