OVERVIEW

At Orion, we are seeking a Nursing Director to oversee comprehensive Labor & Delivery operations across a premier Southern California health system. This opportunity serves as the definitive clinical and operational authority, you will provide executive guidance to ensure nursing excellence and seamless perinatal service delivery across the network.

OPPORTUNITY

Full Time (Direct Hire); Southern California(Relocation assistance available

SALARY

$180,000 – $210,000 W2 plus benefits including $25k sign-on bonus

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Champions a culture of clinical excellence and patient-centered care, ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality outcomes for the maternal-fetal population.

  • Drives operational performance through strategic delegation, empowering mid-level management (Charge Nurses/Managers) to achieve departmental KPIs and clinical benchmarks.

  • Exercises rigorous oversight of the departmental budget, optimizing resource allocation, managing labor costs (productivity), and justifying capital expenditures to ensure long-term financial sustainability.

  • Serves as a proactive liaison within the executive leadership team, contributing to hospital-wide strategic planning and fostering multidisciplinary partnerships between nursing, obstetrics, and pediatrics.

  • Maintains continuous survey readiness and strict adherence to CMS, state, and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, specifically focusing on maternal safety bundles and perinatal core measures.

KEY EXPERIENCE

  • RN experience, with a primary focus on Labor & Delivery, High-Risk OB, or Perinatal services.

  • Experience in a manager or director-level role, demonstrating success in unit operations and clinical staff supervision.

  • Experienced in managing the risks associated with perinatal care and maintaining a "zero-harm" environment.

  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams through varying and unpredictable clinical circumstances, including obstetric emergencies.

  • Proven ability to exercise high-stakes judgment in emergency and crisis situations where rapid action is required to ensure maternal and neonatal safety.

  • Comfort operating in high-pressure, unpredictable clinical environments with regular exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous waste, and high-acuity patient scenarios.

  • Ability to perform moderate physical labor, including lifting/moving patients (up to 25lbs) and maintaining endurance during prolonged standing or walking in a fast-paced unit.

  • Nursing leadership experience in a hospital setting.

  • Current CPR/BLS certification (NRP and ACLS strongly preferred for L&D leadership).

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Licensure from California Board of Nursing.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

  • Quick turnaround: preliminary interview followed by team interview.

  • Typically, two round with the hiring manager and team, possibly three rounds if needed.
