Associate – Copyright & Commercial Transactions (4+ PQE)
About the Opportunity
A leading global law firm is seeking a highly qualified Associate to join its Copyright practice, focusing on transactional work. This is an opportunity to work within a cross-disciplinary team advising innovative technology, digital media, and content-driven businesses on complex copyright and commercial matters at the intersection of law, technology, and creative industries.
The team handles a broad range of sophisticated work, from advising on product design and copyright compliance strategies to negotiating business-critical content licenses and resolving disputes. You will work with clients ranging from high-growth start-ups to established global technology and media companies, providing strategic guidance across digital content ecosystems.
The Role
This position sits on the transactional side of the Copyright practice and focuses on standalone commercial transactions. The successful candidate will advise on complex agreements and strategic partnerships within the music, media, and digital content space.
Key responsibilities include:
Drafting and negotiating sophisticated, bespoke commercial agreements
Advising on licensing, data and content acquisition arrangements
Supporting dispute settlement negotiations
Structuring strategic partnership and collaboration agreements
Providing strategic advice on copyright compliance and digital content business models
Working directly with clients on principal-side transactional matters
This role is focused on commercial and licensing work and is not primarily centred on M&A or financing transactions.
Candidate Profile
Minimum 4 years' post-qualification experience (or equivalent)
Strong background in technology transactions, IP licensing, or complex commercial agreements from a leading law firm
Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating bespoke agreements
Interest in technology, digital media, music, or content-driven industries
Excellent analytical, communication, and client management skills
Prior experience in entertainment, music, or media is advantageous but not required
