Job Description


SUMMARY: As one of the Public Health Institute's programs, Health Intervention Projects for Underserved Populations (HIPUP) conducts community-based research/programs for underserved populations in the field of substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, and trauma prevention and treatment. Through collaboration with targeted communities, HIPUP strives to have a significant impact on health promotion and human rights for underserved communities locally and internationally.The Health Educator I will work for the SAMHSA.CSAT funded project, Flourish2 Project, targeting women at risk for HIV and substance abuse in Alameda and San Francisco counties. The project aims to provide Motivational Enhancement Intervention and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to reduce substance use and HIV risk behaviors and promote health and well-being by linking clients to appropriate community-based behavioral health services. This is a full-time position expected to work 100% FTE with a work schedule of 40 hours/week.This position is currently remote and is required to travel to the San Francisco Bay Area (mainly Oakland and San Francisco) to attend meetings and conduct outreach activities a few times a week or more as needed. The incumbent must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area and have the ability to travel locally and work some non-standard hours as required.Full pay range for this position: $24.15 to $33.65 per hour. The typical hiring range for this position is from $24.15 (minimum) to $28.90 (midpoint) per hour. The starting wage is determined using a variety of factors, such as the candidate's knowledge, skills, and experience, as well as internal equity considerations and budget availability.Employment Type: Full TimeESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Conduct community in-person and online outreach targeting women at risk for HIV and substance abuse.
• Actively build collaborative working relationships with CBOs and other social groups.
• Provide Motivational Enhancement Intervention sessions to participants in order to reduce substance abuse and HIV risk behaviors.
• Refer participants to appropriate community-based organizations and health care services (e.g., substance use treatment, HIV/Viral Hepatitis (VH) testing, PrEP, HIV primary care, Hep B vaccination, and primary health care, etc.). Monitor and navigate referred services for participants.
• Enroll and navigate participants to complete the Stable Housing and Employment (SHE) in which they will gain skills and knowledge about the job application and finding affordable housing in a safe neighborhood.
• Conduct intake and follow-up risk assessments.
• Collect and enter assessment and outcome data.
• Manage materials and facility logistics for outreach events and activities.
• Facilitate support groups targeting women.
• Process cash payments to participants.
• Perform other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Minimum Qualifications

  Some experience in advocating for women Strong knowledge of HIV, substance abuse, and health disparity issues among women Ability to maintain accurate record keeping Ability to recognize and resolve problems as they occur Good attention to detail, self-motivation, ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and good organizational skills Ability and comfort in engaging in open and nonjudgmental conversations with participants from diverse backgrounds with sensitivityPrior computer experience (e.g., Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel)Some experience in peer counseling or case management Knowledge of the HIV service system in San Francisco and Alameda counties is a plus Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
