QC Specialist, Data Migration

Description:

Location: If you are located in San Francisco, this role is 3x per week on site, otherwise, this is a remote role with occasional travel.

*This is a 6-month contract, with the potential to extend/ convert to permanent!

Position Summary:

The QC Specialist is responsible for verifying the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of content migrated from one file sharing system to another file sharing system. This role conducts thorough quality checks to ensure all documents, metadata, folders, permissions, and version histories have been transferred correctly and align with established migration standards. The QC Specialist collaborates closely with project leads, technical teams, and business stakeholders to identify discrepancies, document findings, and support timely issue resolution. This position plays a critical role in maintaining data reliability and ensuring a seamless transition to the new content management platform.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Execute structured QC checks to verify successful migration of files, folders, and libraries against pre-defined acceptance criteria.
  • Validate document fidelity (file counts, sizes, checksums/hash values where available) to ensure no loss or corruption.
  • Confirm preservation of folder hierarchy, naming conventions, and path integrity.
  • Spot-check and fully reconcile high-risk and business-critical repositories using targeted sampling plans.
  • Verify migration and accuracy of key metadata fields (e.g., document owner, created/modified dates, custom columns).
  • Log discrepancies (missing files, mismatched metadata, broken links, permission drift) with clear reproduction steps and impact assessment.
  • Triage issues with migration engineers and business owners; track fixes through to closure.
  • Escalate blockers and systemic defects with evidence (screenshots, manifest diffs, export reports).
  • Communicate data verification results, risks, and go/no-go recommendations.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite of products such as Word, Excel etc.
  • 3–5 years of experience in data migration, content management, or quality control within digital platforms (e.g., SharePoint, Box, other ECM systems) at a biotech, CRO or large pharma
  • Strong understanding of content management systems, including file structures, metadata, permissions, and versioning behavior.
  • Demonstrated experience performing data verification or QC.
  • Strong Proficiency with Excel or other analysis tools for comparing inventories, metadata, and migration logs.
  • Ability to identify discrepancies logically and systematically, with strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Experience with issue tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, ServiceNow, Azure DevOps) for logging and managing defects.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present findings to technical teams and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently.
