Technical Accounting Manager Consultant

Location: Remote (U.S.-based preferred)

Duration: 4–5 months (with potential extension)

Overview

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Technical Accounting Manager (Consultant) to provide coverage during a parental leave. This role will focus on complex accounting areas requiring strong technical expertise, judgment, and analytical thinking, while also helping to build and enhance scalable accounting processes and systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical accounting assessments and policy development across key areas of the business
  • Oversee internally developed software accounting (IDSW), including quarterly review of capitalized software, policy alignment, and capitalization analysis for new projects
  • Support asset disposal activities, including accounting for donated IP and related goodwill impairment considerations
  • Manage stock-based compensation accounting, including new award evaluations and modification accounting
  • Partner on acquisition accounting, including purchase price allocations (PPA), review of third-party valuation reports, and post-acquisition compensation expense
  • Provide guidance on complex, judgmental accounting matters and ensure compliance with US GAAP
  • Support and enhance system processes, improving system utilization, data integrity, and reporting accuracy
  • Help build, document, and optimize accounting workflows and policies to support a scalable finance function

Additional Support Areas (as needed)

  • Capitalized commissions and related accounting treatment
  • Quarterly technical accounting procedures (e.g., ASU adoption and impact assessments)
  • Statement of cash flows preparation and review
  • Segment reporting and disclosure support

Qualifications

  • 6–10+ years of experience in technical accounting, including public accounting (Big 4 or national firm preferred) and/or public company environment
  • Strong expertise in US GAAP, including software capitalization, stock-based compensation, and business combinations
  • Experience with internally developed software (ASC 350-40), ASC 718, and ASC 805
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite, including leveraging the system to improve accounting processes and reporting
  • Proven ability to independently research, document, and conclude on complex accounting issues
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to operate autonomously in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
