Description:

Our client is a fast-growing, tech-forward transportation platform currently seeking a temporary Payroll Specialist with strong garnishment experience to support their Payroll/HR operations. They operate in a high-volume, high-growth environment and are looking for a sharp, detail-oriented professional who can manage employee garnishments accurately and efficiently. This role will play a key part in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local garnishment regulations while supporting ongoing operational growth. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, tech-savvy, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Please note this is a hybrid, 6-month contract role with potential conversion, based in Redwood City, CA. Pay will be $40-$45/hr.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enter, update, and maintain employee garnishments accurately in CHR.
  • Process a high volume of garnishment orders, including but not limited to child support, tax levies, wage attachments, and creditor garnishments.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on garnishments, ensuring proper setup, calculations, and compliance.
  • Monitor garnishment deductions to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to applicable laws.
  • Review and interpret garnishment orders to ensure correct withholding and prioritization.
  • Respond to garnishment-related emails and inquiries from employees, courts, agencies, and third-party vendors in a professional and timely manner.
  • Coordinate with Payroll, HR, and external agencies to resolve discrepancies or issues related to garnishments.
  • Maintain organized and confidential records of all garnishment documentation and correspondence.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local garnishment regulations and deadlines.
  • Assist with audits or internal reviews related to garnishments and payroll compliance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve garnishment processes and documentation for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support special projects related to payroll systems, reporting, or compliance as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 2–4+ years of payroll experience, with hands-on garnishment processing experience required
  • Strong working knowledge of wage garnishment laws and regulations.
  • Experience entering and managing garnishments in payroll systems (CHR experience strongly preferred).
  • Proven experience handling high-volume garnishment workloads in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly when corresponding with external agencies.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficient with Excel and basic spreadsheet management.
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable learning new systems and processes quickly.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
