Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Controller for a mission-driven litigation firm focused on complex commercial and antitrust matters. This is a full-time, onsite opportunity based in San Francisco, California.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Controller will lead the firm's financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and effective financial planning. This role partners closely with executive leadership to manage accounting operations, oversee budgeting and forecasting, and support strategic decision-making. The Controller will also supervise accounting staff while supporting HR, payroll, and operational initiatives that keep the firm running smoothly.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee core accounting operations including billing, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, financial reporting, and case cost management
- Prepare monthly and annual financial reports, forecasts, and budgets while tracking financial performance against projections
- Manage trust account activity, partner distributions, and vendor payments while maintaining strong internal controls and fraud prevention practices
- Coordinate year-end financial processes and support external audits in collaboration with third-party financial advisors
- Supervise accounting staff and support payroll, benefits administration, and HR-related compliance processes
- Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, operational workflows, and accounting policies
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience leading accounting operations within a law firm or professional services environment
- Strong expertise in QuickBooks, advanced Excel, and financial reporting systems
- Experience managing payroll, budgeting, forecasting, and financial controls
- Familiarity with legal billing or timekeeping systems such as Tabs3 or similar platforms
- Highly analytical with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple financial priorities
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This position offers a
salary range of $200,000 - $250,000 annually, along with a comprehensive benefits package including healthcare coverage, retirement plans, and paid time off.
