Position Title: SchoolCustodian & Security Guard

Classification: Classified Employee; Full time Non-Exempt

Job Summary

Under the direction of the School Compliance Manager, the Custodian / Security / Safety Guard is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and secure school environment. This position performs custodial services, monitors campus safety, supervises students in designated areas, and assists with enforcing school safety procedures. The role supports a safe and orderly educational environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Custodial Duties

• Clean and maintain classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and sanitize floors and surfaces.
• Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste properly.
• Restock restroom supplies including soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
• Clean windows, furniture, doors, and fixtures as assigned.
• Maintain campus cleanliness including outdoor areas such as walkways and entrances.
• Set up and break down rooms for meetings, assemblies, and school events.
• Report maintenance issues, vandalism, or facility damage to appropriate personnel.
• Maintain custodial equipment and supplies in a safe and organized manner.

Security and Safety Duties

• Monitor campus entrances, hallways, parking lots, and outdoor areas to ensure safety.
• Conduct routine patrols of school grounds and facilities.
• Observe and report suspicious activities, unsafe conditions, or unauthorized individuals.
• Ensure gates, doors, and facilities are secured
• Assist with enforcing school safety policies and campus supervision procedures.
• Support visitor check-in procedures and direct visitors to the school office.
• Respond appropriately to incidents and notify administration or emergency personnel when necessary.
• Help maintain orderly behavior in common areas such as hallways and playgrounds.
• Support staff in maintaining a safe and respectful campus environment.
• Follow school and district emergency procedures.
• Report safety hazards immediately.
• Assist with fire drills, lockdown drills, and other emergency preparedness activities.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience:

• Previous custodial, maintenance, security, or school supervision experience preferred.

Knowledge of:

• Basic custodial cleaning methods and equipment
• Safe use of cleaning chemicals
• Basic campus safety and security practices
• School safety and emergency procedures

Ability to:

• Perform physical custodial tasks.
• Follow written and verbal instructions.
• Maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, and visitors.
• Observe and report safety concerns.
• Work independently with minimal supervision.

Licenses & Requirement:

• TB clearance and criminal background clearance as required by California law.
• First Aid/CPR certification preferred.

• Ability to lift up to 40-50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
