Description

The Accounting Manager acts as a partner to the VP of Finance to oversee all elements of our financial operations related to accounting and accounts payable, as well as performing duties related to accounts receivable. The role is responsible for maintaining adherence to GAAP principles, completing monthly close reporting packages, and ensuring our books are ready for our annual audit.

This position will focus on the following areas:

Financial Operations (Estimated at 50%, could shift)

  • Oversee the Payables & Compliance Specialist to maintain the general ledger and manage A/P and Payroll.
  • Ensure information is accurately represented in QuickBooks Online. Complete month-end close by required due dates to enable company-wide performance.
  • Maintain the integrity of balance sheet accounts.
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations as well as report on cash positions across the business's accounts.
  • Accurately post and match banking transactions, including deposits and internal transfers.
  • Enforce PSD policies and control processes, assuring adherence to GAAP principles and regulations.
  • Gather and prepare financial records, schedules, and reports for internal and external audits.
  • Manage the annual financial audit, including working with external auditors for one day of on-site meetings.
  • Independently use QuickBooks Online, Excel and other accounting software to manage workflows.
  • Learn and adapt to new software and tools, making recommendations for improved efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities to automate, streamline, or improve existing processes through technology.
Accounts Receivable (Estimated at 25%, could shift)
  • Prepare and issue accurate, complete, and timely invoices to customers, in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Track the status of invoices and communicate with colleagues or clients to resolve delays or discrepancies.
  • Monitor outstanding balances and manage collections as needed.
Financial Reporting (Estimated at 15%, could shift)
  • Prepare and issue accurate, complete, and timely monthly financial reporting to colleagues.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide narrative summaries of findings.
  • Independently use Excel and other tooling to streamline processes.
Stakeholder Management & Other Responsibilities (Estimated at 10%, could shift)
  • Build relationships with partners across the business to help assist in their needs with specific clients.
  • Answer all requests for additional information from external parties or the board in a timely manner.
  • Cross-train to serve as backup during absences and peak workload periods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring

Required:
  • Energized by tasks related to accounting supervision as well as tasks related to owning the detailed execution of customer invoicing.
  • Four to six years of experience working within an accounting department.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field (or commensurate experience).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated, solution-oriented, and able to bring new ideas to improve operations.
  • Proven ability to learn new technology quickly, adapt to software updates, and find ways to improve processes through automation or system use.
  • Prioritizes clear, continuous, and timely communication both verbally and in writing, to be able to turn the most impactful work.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Excel and QBO. Demonstrated ability to use accounting software and related tools to work efficiently and accurately.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Desired:
  • Master's degree in business or finance.
  • Experience working in multi-state payroll platforms.
  • Comfortable working in an open, transparent working environment.
  • People management experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent use of a computer requiring extended periods of sitting and visual focus.
  • May be required to lift boxes during office visits to assist in audits.
Work Environment
  • Work performed on-site is in an open working environment; frequently, this work is completed remotely.
Travel Requirements
  • Approximately 5% of time spent traveling.
  • Typical travel will include visits to PSD headquarters in Ithaca, NY, for team off-sites.

The pay range for this role is:

90,000 - 105,000 USD per year (Remote (Ithaca, NY, US))
