Material Handler

The function of a Material Handler is to process parts through the organization both physically and through the Warehouse Management System for record keeping. Material Handlers handle a variety of materials and products. The Material Handler also operates forklifts, pallet jacks, and other machinery to move items, or signals machine operators to move materials onto and off trucks and load docks. They are also expected to keep inventory, loading areas, and machinery clean.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Use hand trucks, dollies, pallet jacks and other motorized equipment to move material or freight in the warehouse-storage facility
2. Unload customer products as they come inbound
3. Load product that is being processed for outbound
4. Weigh products and take measurements (DIMS)
5. Receive, unpack, check, and verify product to ensure accuracy
6. Process receiving exceptions as needed
7. Use handheld RF tools to receive, pick, stock check, and ship products into WMS
8. Conduct stock checks, part number verification, Cycle Counts, support physical inventory
9. Pack, re-pack and wrap products for shipping and storage
10. Consolidate partial pallets into full pallets for location and inventory consolidation
11. Label parts as needed during receipt, put away, picking or shipping process
12. Pick parts for order fulfillment, shipments, scrap requests, etc.
13. Strap/unstrap or open pallets, boxes or crates as needed
14. Stage completed orders or shipments in staging area
15. Ensure that orders and shipping material are accompanied with proper delivery documents: Revised BOL, packing slip, manual tag, etc.
16. Inform lead/supervisor in a timely manner about OSD (overages, shortages & damage) found while picking orders or shipments
17. Check QB to ensure timely and accurate responses to inquiries
18. Process RAM to ensure efficient and accurate handling of materials
19. Verify incoming shipments for accuracy and completeness
20. Place materials in variance, ensuring proper categorization and tracking
21. Process materials for shipment to BELFOR, coordinating logistics and documentation
22. Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures
23. Follow all workplace safety regulations and guidelines
24. Executes department specific documentation processes including bill of lading verification, inventory reconciliation, and warehouse management system data entry to support inbound, outbound, and internal material handling operations
25. Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and safe work environment
26. Occasional use of hand tools and/or power tools
27. Cross-train as needed to learn other warehouse functions
28. Other duties and tasks assigned as needed

• Able to identify safety hazards or compliance concerns and use good judgement and company policies to evaluate and plan the next step
• Shows honesty, accountability, and reliability in all tasks. Follows company policies, handles materials responsibly, and maintains trust by doing the right thing even when unsupervised
• Demonstrate the ability to interact well with others and follow instructions
• Able to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks
• Flexibility and ability to adjust to sudden changes in operational goals
• Must be able to stand, walk, use hands to handle objects, or reach with hands and arms, climb ladders, kneel, and crouch
• Must be able to lift and move items up to 50 lbs. unassisted while using safe lifting techniques

Qualifications & Skills Needed:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• 0-2 years' Warehouse and Logistics experience
• 1- 2 years' forklift experience preferred
• Willingness to learn and apply LEAN principles, including 5S and 7S methodologies; training provided
• Great communication skills
• Understanding of logistics, shipping, receiving, and standard work instruction protocols
• Strong math and writing skills
• Basic computer skills with knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Prior experience with Inventory control preferred.
• Excellent time management
