The U.S. Border Patrol is hiring full-time, entry-level Law Enforcement Officer opportunities.
Salary and Benefits
The annual base salary for newly appointed Border Patrol Officers ranges from $49,739 to $89,518, depending on the grade level (GL-5/GL-7). Your salary may vary based on the duty location, with potential locality pay. A fully trained Border Patrol Officer may earn up to an additional 25% of their base pay. This is a career ladder position with advancement opportunities available without reapplication when you successfully complete the required time at each grade level, which includes GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12.
Recruitment Incentive
Newly appointed Border Patrol Officers could be eligible for up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives. The first $10,000 is offered upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy, with an additional $10,000 available for accepting prioritized locations.
Retention Incentive
Additionally, new Border Patrol Officers may qualify for up to $40,000 in retention incentives throughout their initial four years of service.
Duties and Responsibilities
As a Border Patrol Officer, you will play a crucial role in protecting the American people by securing our borders, deterring illegal activities, and promoting the nation's economic welfare. Your typical duties will include:
Qualifications
For GL-5 Grade Level:
Experience: One year of general work experience demonstrating leadership, decision-making, and composure in challenging situations; OR
Education Substitution: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; OR
Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of relevant experience and education will be calculated based on your submitted documents.
For GL-7 Grade Level:
To qualify at this level, you will need one year of specialized experience that demonstrates skills in decision-making with firearms, effective interaction in law enforcement contexts, and rapid information analysis.
Other Requirements
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is required.
Residency: You must have resided in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years.
Age Restriction: Applicants must not exceed the age of 40 at the time of selection for the position, with exceptions for current or former federal law enforcement personnel.
Formal Training: Successful candidates will participate in extensive training at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy, focusing on immigration laws, enforcement operations, and necessary skills.
