The Legal Company seeks an Associate Attorney with 5+ years of experience in land use or environmental law to join our Government, Land Use, Environment and Energy (GLUEE) Department.

Position Overview

The successful candidate will handle a diverse range of regulatory, administrative, transactional, and litigation matters related to the development of land and natural resources. This includes work in key subject matter areas such as project development, CEQA and NEPA compliance, public lands and mining, air quality, water resources, and energy regulation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on compliance with state and federal environmental and land use laws, including CEQA and NEPA.
  • Assist with project development and permitting, including interactions with government agencies and public entities.
  • Handle land use and environmental litigation, including writ of mandate proceedings.
  • Provide legal counsel on public lands, mining, air and water quality, and energy-related issues.
  • Support real estate transactions involving environmental due diligence and land use entitlements.
  • Draft and negotiate project development and regulatory agreements.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the State Bar of California (required).
  • 5+ years of experience in land use or environmental law.
  • Experience with CEQA and NEPA compliance and project development.
  • Land use litigation (writ of mandate) and public lands experience preferred.
  • Experience in real estate transactions is a plus.
  • Strong academic credentials and excellent written, analytical, and communication skills.

Compensation

The Legal Company reasonably expects to offer annual base compensation between $260,000 and $275,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
Associates who meet the Firm's minimum performance standards (including billing at least 1,900 hours) can reasonably expect total compensation (base salary + discretionary bonus) ranging from $405,000 to $425,000.
Discretionary bonuses may increase based on hours billed and collected in excess of 1,900 hours. Additionally, associates receive credit and bonus consideration for originated work
