Optometrist

Location: Oakland, CA
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $150,000 – $175,000 per year
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Role Overview

This role places you at the center of everyday eye care for patients who often face barriers to access. As an Optometrist in our community health clinic, you will deliver routine and medical eye exams, detect and manage ocular conditions, and support long-term vision health. Your work directly improves quality of life by helping patients see clearly, stay employed, and maintain independence.

You will collaborate closely with primary care providers and care coordinators to ensure culturally responsive, whole-person care for individuals and families in Oakland's BIPOC community.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive eye exams for adults and children
• Diagnose and manage common ocular conditions and vision disorders
• Prescribe corrective lenses and provide vision treatment plans
• Identify systemic health issues with ocular indicators and refer as needed
• Document patient care accurately in the electronic health record
• Educate patients on eye health, prevention, and treatment options
• Coordinate care with medical, behavioral health, and specialty teams

Requirements

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) from an accredited program
• Active California Optometry license in good standing
• Experience in primary care, community health, or safety-net settings preferred
• Comfort working with diverse patient populations
• Ability to manage a steady patient schedule in a clinic environment
