In addition to services and benefits to our members, BASF provides a variety of legal services to San Francisco residents including our Lawyer Referral and Information Service, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and the Justice & Diversity Center (including the Homeless Advocacy Project) which is the largest provider of legal services to San Franciscans.

ABOUT THE JOB:

The Human Resources Coordinator supports the daily operations of the Human Resources department for both BASF & JDC. This role plays a key part in recruitment, onboarding, and employee lifecycle administration. The HR Coordinator ensures a welcoming experience during the new hire orientation while maintaining compliance with employment laws and internal policies.

  • Coordinate full-cycle recruitment for all positions, including posting job announcements, screening applications, and scheduling interviews.
  • Partner with hiring managers to track candidate progress and ensure timely communication.
  • Conduct reference checks and assist with background screening processes.
  • Maintain applicant tracking system (ATS) and recruitment records.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in hiring practices.
  • Coordinate onboarding logistics, including offer letters, new hire paperwork, and orientation scheduling.
  • Ensure completion of I-9 verification and other compliance documentation.
  • Facilitate new employee orientation and introduction to organizational policies and culture.
  • Coordinate with IT and facilities to ensure new hires are set up with necessary equipment and access.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS data entry.
  • Support benefits administration and enrollment processes.
  • Track employee changes (status, compensation, promotions).
  • Assist with performance review cycle tracking and reminders.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and benefits.Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Maintain confidential personnel records.
  • Assist with audits and required reporting.
EDUCATION:

Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Experience supporting recruitment and onboarding
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Familiarity with HRIS and applicant tracking systems.
  • Knowledge of employment law basics (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, etc.).
  • Commitment to the mission of nonprofit legal services and access to justice.
  • Minimum of 2 years HR Administrative or coordinator experience, preferably in a nonprofit or legal services environment.
