Everyone, including job seekers from underrepresented communities, is strongly encouraged to apply.Role descriptionPosition DescriptionIn preparation for the June 2, 2026, Statewide Direct Primary Election, the Department is seeking applications for one seasonal position of 1404 Warehouse Clerk. This position will support the Polling Place Operations Division with various election tasks. The role primarily involves working at the Department's warehouse located at Pier 31.In addition to the range of duties assigned to the 1404 job code, the person in this position will have the following responsibilities:* Sort, stage, and assist in the transport equipment and election supplies.* Move materials from the receiving area to appropriate storage or processing locations.* Place materials and supplies into processing containers according to predetermined sequences and distribution plans.* Label, tag, and organize supplies to ensure accurate identification and accessibility.* Coordinate and conduct physical inventory counts of equipment and supplies.* Maintain accurate inventory records and report discrepancies to supervisors.* Assist with loading and unloading delivery vehicles.* Prepare and assemble supply kits for distribution to field sites or polling locations.* Inspect materials and equipment for damage or shortages upon receipt and prior to distribution.* Maintain cleanliness and organization of warehouse and staging areas.* Follow established safety, security, and procedural guidelines at all times.* Assist with ballot tabulation operations, including operating central count equipment, scanning ballots for tracking, and supporting computer room activities as needed.* Proofread voting equipment reports to ensure 100% accuracy.* Assist with ballot processing activities at City Hall as needed, including sorting, preparation, and support functions in accordance with established election procedures.* Operate a City vehicle to transport election equipment, supplies, and materials between warehouse, City Hall, polling places, and other designated locations, as needed and in accordance with departmental safety policies.* Perform other related warehouse and logic and accuracy duties as assigned.* Assist with other election-related functions, which may need to be completed in other locations, such as the Department of Elections office at City Hall, in the field, or at polling places throughout San Francisco.Position Schedule, Requirements, and Work LocationThis is a temporary exempt as-needed position. Temporary exempt as-needed employees who have worked more than 1040 hours in any consecutive 12-month period, and whose normal work week at the time of inclusion in the system is not less than 20 hours are eligible for health coverage and retirement benefits. For more information on the City and County of San Francisco benefit policies, refer to the Employee Handbook available at hours will vary according to the demands of the election cycle, ranging between 20 and 40 hours per week. While most work is expected to be completed during regular business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday), adjustments may be necessary to meet operational requirements. Employee must be available to work overtime during the week and on weekends as needed. Overtime will be paid at a rate of 1.5 times the hourly rate.This is a seasonal position, with a tentative start date of April 20, 2026. The tentative assignment end date for this position is June 30, 2026, or earlier. The exact start and end dates for this position will be based on the operational needs of the Department.Work is generally performed in the warehouse, which has limited temperature control, but may also require offsite duties. Workers may be exposed to varying temperatures, loud noises, dust, fumes, and/or odors.Position Salary: $31.5375 to $38.3375 hourly$65,598 to $79,742 annuallyHow to qualifyMinimum QualificationsOne (1) year of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents, filing, use of office equipment, public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail.Substitution: Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative Training program, or completion of a clerical training program (240 hours), or 15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university may substitute for up to 6 months of required experience.Desired Qualifications* Prior work experience in warehouse operations* Excellent work ethics and sense of responsibility* Ability to work independently and as part of a team* Willingness to follow instructions, and work on multiple simultaneous projects* Flexibility, tolerance, and stamina for tedious tasks and occasional long hoursTo be considered for this position, applications must be received by 5:00 p.m., March 25, 2026.Additional requirement: This position requires a valid California driver's license and a clean DMV record.
