As a Lead Economist at Amazon, you'll collaborate closely with senior management, business partners, engineers, and economists to address strategic business challenges across diverse areas such as Amazon Web Services, Kindle, Prime, inventory management, international retail, and more. Economists play a crucial role in developing econometric models utilizing our extensive data systems, employing methodologies from a wide array of fields including applied macroeconomics, microeconomics, econometric theory, and empirical analysis. Your contributions will be vital in solving complex business issues, whether embedded within a business unit or as part of a central science and economics team. You will also help design automated systems that leverage econometric techniques to analyze large datasets and tackle quantitative problems.

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD in economics or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant research experience post-PhD or equivalent.
  • Expertise in econometric analysis and model estimation involving fundamental preferences and strategic considerations.
  • Experience in analyzing pricing strategies, competition, labor markets, health care outcomes, auctions, marketing tactics, advertising campaigns, contract designs, and game theory.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical methodologies and their application to business challenges, especially with large datasets.
  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing business environment.
  • A proven track record of impactful research.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging both economists and non-economists alike.

Compensation varies based on the geographical market, with base pay ranging from $143,300/year to $247,600/year depending on location and relevant experience. Amazon also offers a comprehensive compensation package that may include equity, sign-on bonuses, and various benefits.
