About the Role:

As an Associate Buyer you will become an integral part of the Grocery Purchasing team. A big part of the role is day-to-day maintenance functions, data analysis and accurate data entry. You will ensure accuracy in the ordering process while managing communications with vendors, buyers, merchandisers and our stores. The Associate Buyer will report to the Senior Buyer in Grocery Purchasing.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Support Grocery Purchasing Team on day-to-day functions of the department as needed
  • Responsible for category management for assigned classes and sub-classes.
  • Identify, create and maintain everyday items within assigned classes and sub-classes
  • Analyze key metrics by category and SKU to continuously optimize assortment and potential gaps
  • Monitor purchase orders and partner with planning to oversee weekly receipt flow into the 4 different distribution centers; ensure timely arrival of orders
  • Work closely with the inventory planning team to support forecasting for suppliers and management of inventory
  • Develop new vendor relationships as well as foster existing relationships to drive the success of your categories
  • Negotiate costs that allow retail prices that maximize value to the customer while considering the impact on margin
  • Demonstrate ability to successfully sell Grocery Outlet to vendors and foster relationships with our existing supplier base
  • Identify and Present category trends/opportunities using internal and external data to achieve sales and margin plans
  • Establish and maintain a reputation of credibility and responsiveness; promptly returns vendor and store communications, ensures timely follow-up on issues within 24 hours
  • Responsible for DSD (direct store shipments) Program for Tortillas oversee service levels, order guide management, assortment, pricing, and margin management
  • Identify and shop competition (including price checks); understand the target customer
  • Special Projects as assigned

The Pay:

  • Base Salary Range: $70,000 - 75,000

About You:

  • A. Degree or 3 to 5 years retail/sales or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, outgoing, willing to help others and positive attitude
  • Proficient in the use of Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • You are keen to detail, highly organized and can reprioritize projects frequently
  • Resourceful and will research problems and provide recommended solutions
  • You are highly analytical and numerical savvy
  • Strong written & oral communication skills
  • Industry awareness or interest with the ability to understand and research current trends, within competition and market
  • Thrive in a fast-paced evolving environment
  • Team player, self-motivated, independent-thinker
  • Able to effectively and respectfully communicate with all levels of staff and management
