Sorter Position

A Sorter is responsible for removing recyclable materials out of debris, to be processed for recycling. This is a very fast paced work environment. This position is physically demanding, in all weather conditions, and involves lifting and standing the entire shift. Sorters must interact well with customers and assist customers with unloading material from vehicles as allowed. Position requires candidate to be trustworthy, reliable, and hardworking must take initiative, problem solve, and be a team player for a busy recycling company.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged physical exertion, including standing, reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 75 lbs.)
  • Ability to be alert and aware of your surroundings and remain safe.
  • Exhibit the ability to distinguish between various recyclable materials and trash.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions with exposure to heat, cold, wind, and rain.
  • Self-starter, strong work ethic and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Good verbal communication skills for effective and professional communication with customers and staff, and able to follow verbal instructions.
  • A least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States

Core Responsibilities

  • Sort a variety of recycled materials as instructed, such as: concrete, metal, glass, dry wall, carpet, plastic, wood, roofing material, and green waste into designated containers or locations.
  • Direct customers and vendors to proper loading/unloading areas; assists customers and vendors with unloading and loading recycling materials.
  • Maintains an excellent safety, attendance and work quality record.
  • Take initiative to help to maintain a clean facility by sweeping, picking up, straightening, etc.
  • Break down mattresses and box springs into their component parts and deliver to appropriate bins.
  • Sort metals to separate high-grade metals, such as copper, brass, and aluminum, for recycling.
  • Works in a safe, professional manner (which includes following all stated company policies and following all "common sense" precautions) to safeguard the health of themselves, coworkers, customers, vendors, AND to prevent damage to equipment, goods, property, and the environment.

$18 - $21 an hour
