Marine Supply Chandlery Manager

Job Purpose

The Chandlery Manager is responsible for the daily operations, profitability, and expert service of our marine supply store. You will provide specialized technical advice to boaters, manage a complex inventory of marine hardware and safety gear, and maintain strong relationships with global maritime suppliers to ensure our clients have everything they need for a safe and successful voyage.

Key Responsibilities
Operations & Sales Management

Oversee all day-to-day store activities, including opening/closing, cash management, and visual merchandising.

Develop and implement sales strategies and seasonal promotions to drive revenue.

Monitor financial performance (P&L), managing budgets, and shrinkage.

Inventory & Supplier Relations

Curate a technical inventory ranging from deck and engine stores to cabin provisions and safety equipment (SOLAS/IMO compliant).

Negotiate with vendors and distributors to ensure competitive pricing and reliable lead times.

Utilize POS and inventory software to track stock turns and automate reordering for critical spares.

Technical Advisory & Customer Service

Provide expert guidance on marine products, including rigging, electronics, anti-fouling, and safety gear.

Manage specialized orders for yacht crews, commercial vessels, and local berth holders.

Qualifications & Experience

Experience: 3–5 years of retail management experience, ideally within the marine, outdoor, or technical hardware industry.

Industry Knowledge: Deep familiarity with boating systems (electrical, plumbing, rigging) and marine safety standards.

Education: High school diploma required; a degree in Business Administration or Marine Facilities Management is preferred.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Certified Marina Manager (CMM) or Operator (CMO).
  • USCG Captain's License or RYA certifications are a significant plus.
Technical Skills

Proficiency in modern POS systems (e.g., Lightspeed, Shopify) and Microsoft Office Suite.

Other Responsibilities
  • Completes required paperwork timely.
  • Communicates with management and staff as necessary.
  • Works assigned duties and is flexible with assignment changes as directed by project leaders and management.
  • Is able to lift, push, pull, move merchandise, equipment, and supplies up to 50 lbs.
  • Is able to stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently during 7+ hour shifts.
