Job Title: Merchandise Shift Lead

Organization: Oakland Roots and Soul Sports Club

Location: Oakland, CA

Reports to: Merchandise Coordinator

Compensation: $25 an hour + bonus plan based on revenue and labor

Shift: 6-8 hrs on game days and off-site events

Merchandise Shift Lead

Oakland Roots SC is seeking a motivated, experienced Merchandise Shift Lead to help drive matchday merchandise revenue while leading frontline staff and delivering an exceptional fan experience. This role serves as a key on-site leader, responsible for sales performance, staff coordination and smooth day-of-event operations. The Merchandise Shift Lead is a brand ambassador who leads by example and ensures every fan interaction reflects the values and culture of Oakland Roots and Soul.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Fan Experience

• Lead by example in actively selling Oakland Roots and Soul merchandise, using strong product knowledge to drive add-on sales and maximize revenue
• Deliver a welcoming, engaging, and efficient customer experience across all merchandise locations
• Proactively engage fans, answer product questions, and resolve customer issues with professionalism and positivity
• Model exceptional service standards and reinforce sales best practices with staff

Staff Leadership & Coordination

• Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for Merchandise Sales Associates during assigned shifts
• Assist with onboarding, training, and coaching staff on sales techniques, customer service, and POS operations
• Assign positions, manage breaks, and ensure adequate coverage during peak sales periods
• Provide real-time feedback and support to improve team performance

Operations & POS Oversight

• Oversee accurate operation of POS systems, ensuring proper cash handling and transaction processing
• Troubleshoot POS issues and escalate technical problems as needed
• Assist with opening and closing procedures, including cash counts and end-of-shift reporting

Merchandising & Inventory Management

• Support setup, breakdown, and visual presentation of merchandise booths to optimize flow and sales based on approved design and set up
• Ensure merchandise areas remain organized, stocked, and visually appealing throughout events based on approved design and set up
• Monitor inventory levels, coordinate restocking, and report low stock or discrepancies
• Assist with inventory counts and post-event reconciliation

Brand Representation & Communication

• Represent Oakland Roots and Soul with enthusiasm, professionalism and brand pride at all times
• Communicate key updates, promotions, and priorities to staff during shifts
• Uphold club policies, safety standards, and customer service expectations

Requirements

• Must be 18 years or older and able to stand for extended periods
• Minimum 2-4 years of retail or sales experience, including experience in a leadership or supervisory role
• Proven ability to drive sales, upsell, and meet performance goals
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
• Comfort using electronic payment systems such as Square or similar POS platforms
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy, fan-facing environment
• Ability to lift and transport merchandise boxes weighing up to 50 lbs as needed
• Availability to work evenings, weekends, and matchdays

Salary
