KGO-TV/ABC7 News is on the lookout for a dynamic and committed journalist to join our morning news team as a Morning Studio Reporter / Breaking News Desk Anchor. In this vital role, you will be responsible for delivering live coverage of breaking news and traffic updates during the morning hoursfrom our studio. If news breaks anywhere in the world, you'll be at the forefront, reporting across ABC7's linear and digital platforms, including our 24/7 streaming channel.

As a member of our morning news team, you will also have opportunities for fill-in anchoring, further diversifying your role. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A strong background in breaking news reporting
  • Experience using lightweight digital cameras for creating compelling visual stories
  • An established network of contacts and sources for impactful storytelling
  • A spirit of innovation and a willingness to experiment with new technology
  • An active presence on social media for newsgathering purposes

You must be organized and able to work well under pressure, meeting tight deadlines. A positive attitude and receptiveness to feedback are crucial qualities we value in our team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver live breaking news and traffic reports from the studio
  • Write and edit breaking news stories under tight deadlines
  • Shoot, write, and edit daily news stories for all platforms
  • Maintain an engaging social media presence
  • Serve as presenter and producer for the streaming news channel
  • Provide fill-in anchoring as needed

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience anchoring/reporting in a top 50 market
  • Experience in breaking news situations
  • Strong knowledge of Bay Area traffic and transit
  • Excellent writing skills and solid news judgment
  • Ability to shoot video and edit stories on non-linear desktop editing platforms
  • A robust resume reel showcasing superior on-camera presentation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the San Francisco Bay Area
  • Experience with WSI Max Traffic is a plus
  • Bilingual abilities are beneficial

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor's degree
  • Preferred: Degree in Journalism or Communications

The competitive salary range for this SAG-AFTRA role is $90,948 to $160,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. This role also offers potential for additional compensation, including overtime for early morning and overnight shifts.
