The D-line hiring process is robust and thorough to ensure a good fit for the Company as well as the new team member. We are seeking highly motivated candidates to join our Construction Company. If you qualify for the role of Estimator you will hear from the hiring team within 1 week of your application submission. The following is an overview of our application process:

  1. Complete the application process by submitting your cover letter and resume
  2. Once you submit your application you will be prompted to complete the Culture Index Questionnaire - THIS IS REQUIRED. This is a series of questions that helps the hiring team learn about applicant perception, values and behaviors to help us assess if the applicant will be a good fit for the role.
  3. If you are qualified for the role and have the relevant Culture Index profile we are looking for, the hiring team will conduct an initial screening call to ensure the you fit the role requirements, qualifications and business needs.
  4. Qualified applicants that have the knowledge, skill, ability and meet the business needs will have a follow up meeting (likely in person) with the hiring manager.
  5. A final interview will be conducted with other members of the team that the role will collaborate with and where possible will include attendance of an owner or leadership team member.
  6. D-Line Constructors will also complete a reference check with prior employers prior to providing an offer of employment.


Position Description

Position Overview

Reports to Chief Estimator and Leadership Team Member Vice President

The Estimator plays a critical role in preparing accurate, timely, and competitive bids that contribute to the company's sales and project delivery goals. Working closely with the Chief Estimator and broader project teams, the Estimator is responsible for analyzing project specifications, drawings, and related documents to develop cost estimates using standardized procedures and company systems. This role requires sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to evaluate bid opportunities that align with company goals for growth, profitability, and risk management.

  • Accurate Estimates : Bids are submitted on time and developed using standardized systems with accurate quantities, cost inputs, and risk considerations. Bids are accurate and detailed and align with company objectives and support competitive, strategic bidding.

  • The Estimator supports the bid/no-bid decision process by providing thorough cost breakdowns, analysis, and pricing insights.

  • Proposals and bid submissions reflect the company's quality standards and professionalism, supporting strong client relationships and successful project acquisition. They are also Clear and comprehensive bid presentations that strengthen client confidence and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities

1. Estimating & Bid Development
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates by gathering and analyzing project data, material pricing, and subcontractor quotes or by reviewing junior estimator submissions and finalizing.
  • Break down bid packages into standardized components, ensuring accurate and consistent estimates.
  • Conduct quantity take-offs and review project plans, specifications, and addenda for scope accuracy
  • Incorporate construction methods and bid strategy into proposals
  • Use pricing and estimating data to ensure competitive bid submissions.
2. Pre-Bid Research & Risk Analysis

  • Review analysis of project risks, including site conditions, schedule constraints, and unique project requirements from junior team members and provide additional analysis where appropriate. Collaborate with the Chief Estimator and operations team to evaluate bid strategy, risk factors, and value engineering options.
  • Evaluate bid opportunities to ensure alignment with company goals for growth, profitability, and risk management.
  • Research historical cost data and market trends to provide insights on pricing strategies.
3. Coordination with Vendors, Subcontractors & Internal Teams

  • Request, review, and compare pricing proposals.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, and coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with vendors to ensure accurate, competitive pricing.
  • Collaborate with the estimating team and operations personnel to validate project scope and feasibility.
4. Process Optimization & Technology Utilization

  • Improving estimating workflows, templates, and databases to enhance efficiency and consistency.
  • Utilize estimating software and digital tools to generate cost reports, summaries, and bid proposals.
  • Analyze and incorporate cost data and review estimating templates to ensure they are updated and reflect the latest pricing and industry trends.
5. Proposal Preparation & Presentation Support

  • Review and finalize bid proposals, ensuring they are professional, clear, and persuasive.
  • Compile supporting documentation, including project schedules, scope narratives, and value-added options.
  • Participate in internal bid reviews and client presentations and use them as opportunities for mentorship and learnings for junior members of the team.
Position Requirements

Suggested Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in construction estimating or project engineering.
  • Familiarity with earthwork, paving, grading, and sitework preferred.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with estimating software and takeoff tools.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management.
  • Sense of urgency and professionalism when presenting estimates and bids to win new business.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
