Job Summary

1. Purpose of Elementary Playground Supervisors
a. Elementary Playground Supervisors help children to observe meal-time and playground courtesies and rules of safety.
b. They also, by relieving teachers of noon supervision responsibilities and insuring them a duty-free lunch period, contribute indirectly but significantly to the effectiveness of the total classroom instructional program.

2. Duties and Responsibilities of Elementary Playground Supervisors
a. To supervise lunchrooms, outside eating facilities, playgrounds, and other areas as assigned by the school Principal.
b. To be alert for and to report conditions hazardous to the health and safety of children.
c. To enforce the school rules concerning proper behavior of children.
d. To maintain a firm but respectful and courteous attitude toward children.
Elementary Playground Supervisors may administer no corporal punishment.
e. To supervise noon play activities.
f. To dress appropriately. The appropriate dress code for teachers is also appropriate for elementary playground supervisors. Whistles are provided but should be used sparingly.
3. Public Relations
a. As an employee of the West Contra Costa USD, an Elementary Playground Supervisor is conscious at all times that he/she represents the schools wile off-duty as well as while on-duty.
b. Under no circumstances should a noon supervisor ever discuss a child's behavior with a neighbor or another parent.
