Job Description: The Safety Coordinator is responsible for the development, monitoring and evaluation of all vehicles, industrial and employee safety programs and procedures at all District facilities and sites.
Examples of Essential Functions:
Conduct trend analyses for accidents and provides information to Bus Transportation and others.
ttend Joint Safety Committee meetings and collaborate with management on safety concerns brought forward and actions taken for resolution.
Participate in safety meetings and collaborate with District staff to identify and resolve safety matters.
Prepare and maintain committee agendas, notes, and communications as appropriate.
Respond to serious accidents and provide safety oversight for activities during active investigations.
Review audit recommendations, accident investigations, and hazard reports.
Interpret and apply applicable state, federal, and local policies, laws, and regulations.
Monitor industry safety standards, applicable state, federal, and local policies, laws, and regulations to assure District compliance.
Participate, plan, coordinate, and assist with emergency drills and exercises.
Facilitate and assist with audits conducted by all regulatory agencies.
Participate in developing exercises and procedures for emergency and disaster response.
Minimum Qualifications: Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Psychology, or other related field.
Two (2) years of full-time safety or transit related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Emergency Response Plans.
Bus Operations experience preferred.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations.
National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification.
Transit Safety and Security Program (TSSP) certification.
Effective organizational, analytical and communication skills.
Experience with behavior-based or risk reduction safety programs.
Knowledge of Cal/OSHA requirements for industrial safety, including construction safety.
Operate PC and common software applications.
