The Department of Kinesiology, Athletics and Dance will be looking to fill a Part Time Dance Faculty position. We are looking for a dance instructor that is specifically well-versed in all levels of ballet technique. Experience in teaching other types of dance are welcome, but will not be weighed as the main focus for consideration.

Job Duties

1. Teach in-person one or more in anticipated areas needed: Primarily Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced Ballet Technique, with the option for Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap Dance, and Yoga.

2. Teach day, evening, and/or Saturday classes at one or more sites as required.

3. Evaluate student performance and progress through in- class observation, practical skills and technique test, and written assignments.

4. Create lesson plans that reflect approved department course outlines.

5. Participate in instructional-related and departmental activities including, but not limited to, curriculum development, selection of appropriate instructional materials, revision of instructional and testing materials as required, development and assessment of student learning outcomes, and keeping required attendance records.

6. Participate in department and dance program events that include productions, choreographing for student performances, and supervising dance activities that follow departmental guidelines.

7. Participate in department and college functions, such as staff meetings, committee work, and technical trainings.

8. Supports and engages in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps.

9. Participates in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism to center pedagogy.

10. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).

2. Earned Master's Degree in Dance, physical education with a dance emphasis, or theater with dance emphasis from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT:
OR
Earned Bachelor's degree in any of the above from an accredited institution AND earned Master's Degree physical education, any life science, physiology, theater arts, kinesiology, humanities, performing arts or music from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT;
OR
Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Instructor Credential in Physical education (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990).

Desirable Qualifications

1. Experience teaching one or more of the following in post secondary education: Ballet Technique, Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap Dance, and Yoga

2. Ability to teach beginning through advanced levels of Ballet Technique.

3. Practical demonstrative abilities and active participation i.e. showing students physical/dance technique.

4. A strong pedagogical and technical approach to dance course areas.

5. Ability to motivate and teach in ways appropriate to diverse backgrounds and learning styles of community college students.

6. Certification in Yoga RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher 200 Hour Certification through a Program recognized by the Yoga Alliance) and/or other certifications in Dance (Graham Certified, Cunningham Certified, ect.)

7. Demonstrated ability to develop and revise curriculum that reflect current trends in above dance courses.

8. Ability and/or experience in grant writing.

9. Evidence of successful instructional experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy.

10. Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students
