Campaign Manager

Reporting to the Environmental Health and Nature Campaigns Director, the Campaign Manager will develop and implement plans to advance NRDC's environmental health and nature policy agendas.

The position you are applying for is part of the bargaining unit represented by The Washington Baltimore News Guild (WBNG / The Newsguild-CWA Local 32035).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement federal and regional campaign plans and budgets for advocacy and accountability initiatives in close collaboration with Program, Advocacy, and Communications partners and with regional and state-based teams.
  • Internally and externally direct and organize teams towards a winning strategy on issue campaigns.
  • Manage and spend assigned budgets for particular campaigns.
  • Typically engage in 2-3 concurrent priority issue campaigns federally and regionally.
  • Organize partnerships as needed with other organizations to achieve campaign objectives.
  • Organize campaign briefings and reports for internal and external interested parties.
  • Share ROI from campaign tactics, and guide subsequent decisions for both internal and external parties.
  • Manage campaign consultants and vendors as assigned.
  • Occasional out-of-state and in-DC travel (usually a few days or events a month).
  • Occasional late night and weekend work with short notice.

Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in public policy, political science, or a related field
  • Minimum 4-7 years of relevant experience in electoral or issue advocacy campaigns.
  • Manager or director role experience in either issue or candidate campaigns.
  • And/or equivalent education and/or experience

Skills, Abilities, Competencies

  • Experienced in and adept as both an organizer and as a communication tactician.
  • Proven success in building teams and working with coalitions.
  • Ability to frame issues through the use of use polling and other research to guide advocacy communications.
  • Proven experience managing internal processes, project teams and budget towards a joint plan and strategy.
  • Exceptional ability to analyze information, formulate plans, and convey them in writing and through oral presentations.
  • Track record of cultivating high-level relationships with political, non-profit advocacy, and philanthropic leaders, with a well-established professional network in politics, government, and non-profit advocacy.
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills, including the ability to proactively identify obstacles and propose solutions or recommendations to overcome them.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects involving multiple people and deliverables, and to perform or quickly learn new tasks, systems, and technologies.
  • Ability to prioritize and efficiently execute tasks, follow institutional procedures, and work independently with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Professional exposure to energy and environmental issues is not required . This role first and foremost requires an innovative, cutting-edge campaign and public affairs professional.
  • Some professional exposure to Congress is desirable but not required.
  • Competence with and commitment to diversity and inclusion; ability to be an effective partner with diverse colleagues, leaders and partners.
  • Ability to travel to NRDC U.S. based offices, approximately 10-20% annually
  • Commitment to NRDC's mission, values, and DEI principles
  • Ability to represent NRDC with maturity, judgment, and professionalism.

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. Internal equity will be reviewed and considered to determine a final offer. For this position, the salary range is $113,000 to $124,000.

NRDC operates under a hybrid work model. Employees are required to come to the office 8 days per month.
