There are currently two (2) fulltime (75 bi-weekly hours) vacancies in the County Facilities Division. The Custodian, reporting to the Custodial Supervisor, performs essential custodial and light maintenance tasks across various county facilities. Responsibilities include comprehensive cleaning duties such as waste removal from offices, thorough cleaning and disinfection of restrooms with replenishment of supplies, and maintenance of partitions, walls, and trash containers. Floor care involves sweeping, scrubbing, removal of gum and graffiti, and dusting. Additionally, the Custodian sets up tables and chairs, manages furniture moves, and removes old fixtures. Security checks of buildings are also a core function. The role requires the monitoring, cleaning, and light repair of custodial equipment like floor buffers, vacuums, and extractors. This position requires shift work, including nights and weekends, adherence to a County-issued uniform policy, and potential work within locked or secured facilities. Basic computer skills are essential for completing County forms and utilizing relevant systems.
As our Highly Qualified Candidate you are proficient in all aspects of custodial services, and experienced in the practices, procedures, and tools associated with custodial maintenance tasks. You have experience with high and low speed floor buffers, extractors and vacuums is highly desirable. You are able to exercise sound, independent judgment, are detail oriented, and flexible with scheduled routes. As the ideal candidate you are able to work independently with little supervision, have personal and professional integrity and possesses initiative. You also have have excellent oral communication and organizational skills.
Knowledge of: Methods, materials, chemicals, disinfectants, and equipment used in cleaning and caring for floors, walls, fixtures and furniture. Equipment, materials and supplies used in building maintenance. Equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs. First aid and applicable safety precautions.
Ability to: Read and understand signs, labels, work schedules and written instructions. Write and enter information on time cards and security records. Operate floor care machines and other custodial equipment properly and efficiently such as floor buffers, steam cleaners, carpet cleaners, washers, vacuum, mops, broom, dusting equipment. Work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule. Lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time. Communicate effectively with the public, co-workers and supervisors both orally and in writing. Use equipment and tools properly and safely. Understand and follow written and oral instructions with persons contacted during the performance of duties. Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Minimum Requirements Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills listed. Typically, equivalent to one (1) year of recent full-time custodial experience in commercial buildings and/or facilities that demonstrates possession of the following knowledge and ability requirements. Candidates will be required, at the time of selection interview, to furnish a recent DMV driving record.
Physical Demands: The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
