Your Role

As an AI Research Intern, you will engage in innovative research focused on large language models (LLMs), natural language processing (NLP), and multimodal deep learning. Collaborating closely with senior researchers and cross-functional teams, you will assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating machine learning models and algorithms. Your responsibilities will include data collection, preprocessing, and analysis, as well as helping to refine AI models for various applications. Your skills in data manipulation and model building will be essential in transforming raw data into impactful insights, while you enhance your capabilities with contemporary tools and frameworks.

You will also support research initiatives by designing experiments, comparing algorithms, tuning hyperparameters, and documenting results. Additionally, you will share findings with your team, contribute to reports and presentations, and assist in onboarding new team members. Through collaboration and continuous learning, your contributions will help identify business and research opportunities, inform strategic decisions, and drive advancements in the field of AI at Cisco.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or related disciplines.
  • Proficient in software development with experience in programming languages like Python and Go.
  • Able to analyze and interpret data using statistical methods or analysis tools (e.g., Excel, pandas, NumPy).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with inference engines (e.g., vLLM, Triton) for LLM serving and optimization.
  • Familiar with containerization and cloud platforms (e.g., Docker, AWS) as well as distributed systems for scaling AI models.
  • Knowledge of agentic AI concepts and related applications.
  • Experience in training LLMs, including modeling and optimization using common AI libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Understanding of machine learning, deep learning, and NLP concepts demonstrated through academic or project experience.

Compensation and Benefits

Individual pay is influenced by candidate location, market conditions, job skills, experience, qualifications, and education. The full salary range for various locations is disclosed below. For locations not mentioned, the recruiter will provide more compensation details during the hiring process.

U.S. employees are entitled to paid time off, including:

  • 10 holidays per year and 1 floating holiday for non-exempt employees.
  • 1 paid birthday off, year-end holiday shutdown, and 4 wellness days.
  • Non-exempt employees receive 16 vacation days per year, accrued over time.
  • Exempt employees enjoy flexible vacation time without a defined limit.
  • 80 hours of sick leave provided at hire and on each January 1 thereafter, with carry-forward options.
