Departmental Overview

The School of Information (I School) advances knowledge and practice where humans interact with digital technologies. Through interdisciplinary research and teaching we aim to expand access to information and improve its usability, reliability and credibility while prioritizing security and privacy. Our faculty conduct research in human-computer interaction (HCI), security and privacy, applied data science, and technology in developing regions. We currently offer three professional master's degrees and an academic doctoral degree, including:
Master of Information Management and Systems (MIMS) project-based information professional training
Master of Information and Data Science (MIDS) online degree for working professionals in data science
Master of Information and Cybersecurity (MICS) online, cybersecurity-focused
Ph.D. program for researchers shaping information policy and practice

Responsibilities

  1. 65% Administers and manages the School of Information front desk office, including human resources, facilities, administrative operations for Head of School, communications, IT, and safety. Acts as central information point for the School of Information community. Plans and manages workflows and processes for student employees, including office administration and related functions. Determines needs for general office equipment and supplies. Purchases office items using a procurement card and provides receipts/invoices to reconcile card purchases. Provides building and office orientation to new employees. Develops and periodically reviews orientation manuals and materials. Participates in developing and revising standard operating procedures and guidelines. Ensures compliance with federal/state requirements and internal policies; contributes to school-specific systems and standards.
  2. 20% Maintains South Hall facilities by coordinating projects with campus facilities staff and contractors, serves as point of contact for building problems and emergencies, performs basic maintenance of shared spaces, manages keys and room reservations, and coordinates faculty and student office moves.
  3. 10% Coordinates with the Associate Director of External Relations to help ensure events run smoothly from start to finish; organizes catering for faculty and staff events.
  4. 5% Participates in continuing education to maintain skills.


Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma and/or equivalent certification/experience/training.
  • Thorough knowledge of administrative procedures and processes including word processing, spreadsheets and database applications.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Interpersonal and work leadership skills to provide guidance to other nonexempt personnel.

The range considers factors such as experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, internal equity, and other business needs. Salary offers are based on final candidate qualifications and experience; it is not typical to offer a salary at the top of the range for a position.

The budgeted salary range for this position is $30.58 (Step 1) to $35.85 (Step 8) hourly; the full salary range for this title is $30.58 (Step 1) to $43.80 (Step 17). This is a 100% FTE career position eligible for full benefits. This position is FLSA Non-exempt and paid biweekly.
