On-Call Services Coordinator/Janitor

This is a seasonal position. The Service Coordinator/Janitor acts as a resource, ally, and advisor to Shelter participants, performs janitorial routine tasks that contribute to the on-going maintenance and upkeep of the building, and monitors shelter safety.

Responsible for providing participants with a meaningful orientation about Shelter programs and services and engaging them in Shelter activities.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform all duties within the parameters of the Shelter Policy and Procedure Manual as well as all Standards of Care policies.
  • Check the interior (client living quarters, bathrooms, and community rooms) and exterior of the building on a regularly assigned schedule to maintain a clean, safe environment.
  • Inspect the facilities to maintain security and program compliance.
  • Maintain Shelter Operation Logs according to procedure.
  • Help orient all participants to program rules and responsibilities of each Shelter.
  • Apply Shelter rules and regulations in a fair and equitable manner to all participants.
  • Maintain Shelter records in an accurate, complete, and legible manner.
  • Submit maintenance requests to the shift supervisor, as needed.
  • Immediately reporting any problems to Supervisor(s) or Manager(s) in accordance with Shelter policies and procedures.
  • Attend and participate in daily shift change meetings.
  • Maintain a clean and healthy environment.
  • At the end of every shift, ensure paperwork is complete and the workspace is cleaned and organized.
  • When the Supervisor is offsite, acting as a decision-maker for critical incidents relating to the operation of each Shelter.
  • As needed, attend staff meetings or training courses.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned and required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • The successful candidate must hold either a High School Diploma or a GED equivalent with a minimum of six months' experience working in a position where there is extensive customer service and interaction with the public.
  • Strong communication skills, comprehension of ethics in social services, good general counseling, active listening skills, and proven problem-solving and crisis resolution skills.
  • Experience working with homeless populations that use harm-reduction models. Prior work with mental health, disabilities, or substance abuse issues is preferred.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements of the position which may include long periods of sitting at a desk and/or computer station; lifting items that weigh up to 40 pounds, reaching, bending, and stooping within the daily routine of task and activities.
  • Must secure finger image screening and annual TB screening.
  • Must be able to travel to and from non-ECS sites.
