Reports To: Project Executive / Director of Construction

Position Summary

The Senior Superintendent is responsible for the overall field execution of large, complex construction projects from mobilization through closeout. This role provides leadership to on-site teams, ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with quality standards, and serves as the primary point of coordination between subcontractors, project management, and ownership. The Senior Superintendent is expected to mentor junior superintendents and uphold company standards across multiple project phases.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Execution

  • Lead all on-site construction activities for large-scale, complex projects
  • Develop and manage detailed project schedules and site logistics plans
  • Coordinate daily activities with subcontractors, inspectors, and project management
  • Anticipate constructability challenges and proactively resolve field issues
  • Maintain constant awareness of schedule impacts, sequencing, and manpower needs

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce all company, OSHA, and Cal/OSHA safety standards
  • Lead site safety meetings and ensure compliance with site-specific safety plans
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite at all times
  • Partner with safety teams to investigate incidents and implement corrective actions

Quality Control

  • Ensure work is installed per contract documents, codes, and company quality standards
  • Conduct inspections and punch walks; manage deficiency resolution
  • Oversee testing, inspections, and documentation requirements
  • Ensure proper closeout procedures, including turnover packages

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Lead, mentor, and develop Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, and field staff
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and high-performance jobsite culture
  • Hold subcontractors accountable to contract requirements and performance standards

Communication & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary on-site contact for owners, architects, and inspectors
  • Participate in owner and subcontractor meetings as needed
  • Provide clear, timely reporting on schedule, safety, and field progress
  • Support dispute resolution and maintain positive working relationships

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of experience as a Superintendent on commercial construction projects
  • Proven experience leading large, complex projects from start to finish
  • Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, sequencing, and scheduling
  • Thorough understanding of California building codes and regulations
  • OSHA 30 certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and schedules
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

Preferred

  • Experience with Bay Area projects and local jurisdictions
  • Experience with large GCs or design-build delivery
  • Proficiency with construction technology platforms (Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, etc.)
  • Experience mentoring and developing field leadership teams
