Job DescriptionPosition Summary:
X-ray Trainee Technicians performs basic Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) tasks such as staging work, moving product through the NDT process and miscellaneous support tasks. Level one NDT Technicians will demonstrate the ability to interpret work orders and follow work instructions. This is an entry level position requiring no previous experience.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
* Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction.
* Reads and accurately follows technique card instructions, which describes numerous unique steps of a complex nature; plans the methods for completing a given assignment.
* Adheres to quality processes including in-process inspection to ensure compliance with quality specifications.
* Correctly interprets films and certifies conformance of castings to customer requirements.
* Develops and/or approves complex x-ray "shooting" sketches and techniques used by other x-ray personnel.
* Troubleshoots equipment problems and malfunctions and maintains effective maintenance programs for all equipment, operates all equipment as required.
* Performs equipment calibrations as necessary
* Perform basic NDT support tasks (staging work, etc.)
* Completes all necessary records and develops logs and other records to assure compliance to specifications.
* Maintains/generates related, graphs, records, and reports. Frequent interaction with customers and source inspectors. Analyzes shots taken with the aid of a viewer, to accept or reject x-ray plates in accordance with standards set by Quality Control.
* Work in a team environment, i.e. follow instructions and assist others as needed.
* Follows all established housekeeping and safety practices to maintain the quality of the work environment.
* Performs other duties of equal, greater, or lesser complexity as required by the position or as assigned by supervision.
Experience & Education
* Requires the ability to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions normally acquired by completion of high school of GED. Training is on the job.
* Use arithmetic, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Make simple use of drawings, x-ray folders, approved x-ray techniques, specifications, charts, and tables.
* Must complete Level I x-ray Technician Exam, general, specific, practical, and physical exam requirements.
Required Skills
* Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, read, follows, and interprets instructions on technique cards, code sheets as well as other verbal or written instructions.
* Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
* Expose and develop x-ray film to inspect and check a variety of parts patterns following standard or prescribed methods, requires the use of judgment and films, read, and interpret film technique parameters within the limits of standard practices.
* Continuous mental or visual attention in positioning parts, setting exposure, developing film, and performing related duties
* Ability to use basic inspection tools
* The ability to read and interpret work instructions and basic prints and dimensions
* Ability to acquire Level 1 NDT certification.
* Ability to lift, carry, push, pull 15-20 pounds frequently and 35 pounds occasionally

* Focus on results, timely completion, and quality; Attention to detail and accuracy - precision oriented.
* Prior experience in an industrial manufacturing setting is desirable. Some prior shop experience preferred in order to understand shop practices and procedures.
* Demonstrated high degree of visual acuity and manual dexterity.
