About The Role

We're looking for a legal operations rockstar to join our fast-growing legal team and serve as the financial and operational backbone of Verkada's legal function. This role is primarily focused on legal spend management, budgeting, forecasting, vendor oversight, and financial operations across the entire Legal organization. This includes fiscal year planning, outside counsel legal fees, software, professional services, headcount, travel, and other operating expenses. Secondarily, we are looking for someone with strong operational skills, who is highly organized, analytically strong, and comfortable owning complex, cross-functional workstreams.

If you enjoy building from the ground up, this role is for you! We are committed to a thriving in-office culture. This role requires that you be on-site at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA and reports in our Legal Operations Senior Manager.

What You'll Do

  • Own end-to-end management of the entire budget for Verkada's legal team, including outside counsel, software, professional services, headcount, travel, and other opex.
  • Partner closely with Verkada's finance team on budgeting, accruals, variance analysis, and fiscal year planning
  • Manage our legal billing platform, including invoice review workflows, vendor compliance, matter budgeting, reporting, and ongoing process optimization (ideally you have experience with our specific platform, SimpleLegal).
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting that provide legal leadership with clear visibility into current spend, forecast accuracy, trends, and risks.
  • Lead vendor and outside counsel management workflows, including outside counsel billing policies, spend expectations, and budget discipline.
  • Drive operational initiatives that improve how the Legal team functions, including creating and maintaining processes and structural support around internal and external workflows, team record-keeping standards and systems, and file organization systems
  • Support and refine eDiscovery, legal hold, and document management processes using department tools and systems.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual work and streamline operations through the use of AI, tooling, integrations, or process redesign.
  • Provide operational support across the contracting lifecycle, including optimizing our CLM system

What You Bring

  • 38+ years of experience in legal operations, legal financial management, paralegal work, or a comparable in-house role with ownership of complex workflows.
  • Deep experience with budgeting, forecasting, accruals, spend management, vendor oversight, and eBilling platforms
  • Strong experience with CLM and eDiscovery/legal hold tools and processes.
  • Proven ability to operate independently, prioritize effectively, and move work forward without detailed instruction coupled with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Clear, confident written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace (including advanced use of Google Sheets for tracking, modeling, and reporting), SimpleLegal, MS 365 (specifically Word and Excel), Pigment, Logikcull, Ironclad, DocuSign, Slack, Monday, and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools and systems.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with evolving needs.
