As a Border Protection Officer, you will play a vital role in safeguarding our borders, deterring illegal activities, and promoting the economic prosperity of the United States. With over 60,000 people on our team, your contributions matter!

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Enforcing customs, immigration, and agricultural laws and regulations.
  • Facilitating the movement of legitimate trade and travel.
  • Conducting thorough inspections of individuals and conveyances.
  • Determining individuals' admissibility for entry into the United States.
  • Preventing illegal entry and the smuggling of contraband.

Duty Locations - Incentives Available

You will be able to express your preference for various mission-critical locations across the United States. Remember that while these locations are expected to have upcoming vacancies, you may be offered a position in another area based on operational needs.

Salary and Recruitment Incentives:

Newly appointed Border Protection Officers may receive up to $15,000 in annual recruitment incentives for specific locations with a 3-year service contract. Potential earning range is:

  • Annual Base Salary: $40,332 - $109,952

Moreover, fully trained officers can earn an additional $45,000 as overtime pay. This position offers a career ladder ranging from GS-5 to GS-12 with promotional opportunities based on annual performance.

Qualifications:

You qualify for the GS-5 level if you meet one of the following:

  • Experience: At least three years of general work experience that demonstrates interpersonal skills and the ability to learn and apply various regulations.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Combination: A mix of relevant education and experience.

You qualify for the GS-7 level if you have:

  • Experience: One year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-5 level.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement or a year of graduate education.
  • Combination: Specialized experience combined with qualifying education.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and have resided in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years.
  • Must apply before turning 40 years old (previous law enforcement experience may exempt this requirement).
  • Eligible veterans may be awarded a Veterans Recruitment Appointment.

Training: Candidates will undergo a paid pre-academy orientation followed by a 101-day training program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). Additional language training may be required for specific locations.
