Job Title: Resident Office Assistant (RA) - Non-Residential

Department: Ballet School

Reports To: Senior Manager of Residential Life

Compensation: $23 per hour

Classification and Hours: Part-time, hourly average of 2-3 days per week

Job Purpose: Under supervision of the Senior Manager of Residential Life, the Resident Office Assistant assists with the supervision of students and the management of the Student Residence.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as in-loco parentis for students living in the facility, responding to emergencies such as fire, medical, or earthquake and reinforcing compliance with fire, safety, security, and curfew guidelines.
  • Supervise students to scheduled, urgent, and emergency doctor appointments in consultation with School administration.
  • Assist in the cleanliness and upkeep of the office unit.
  • Oversee and assure student timely participation in events, activities, bed?check, curfew, and housekeeping assignments.
  • Assist Manager of Residential Life with facility systems (room assignments, key issuance, common spaces, storage areas, laundry room, etc.) and prepare rooms for the school year program and summer session.
  • Build rapport with students, help implement social events, and facilitate healthy exchanges to create a harmonious community.
  • Apply fair and consistent disciplinary standards for all dormitory students, referring major disciplinary offenses to the Senior Manager of Residential Life.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • AA degree or 2+ years of college preferred; high school diploma or equivalent acceptable.
  • Preferred experience: summer camp counselor, youth development assistant, university residence life staff, or RA experience working with adolescents in a residential setting.

  • Effectively supervise students to ensure their safety.
  • Prioritize work to reflect the needs of the students and facility.
  • Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • Understand confidentiality levels and differentiate as needed.
  • Handle difficult situations with tenacity and support students and staff.
  • Actively listen to students and family concerns, report issues, and identify solutions.
  • Interpret and apply policies and procedures fairly.
  • Maintain accessible documentation and files.
  • Demonstrate diplomacy and tact in all interactions.
  • Apply creativity and innovation to work processes.
  • Support equal and fair treatment and opportunity for all.
  • Understand, follow, and enforce SFBS and SFCM/Bowes Center emergency and safety guidelines.

Physical Demands:

  • Assist injured students, including lifting and supporting up to 30lbs.
  • Climb and descend stairs.

Required Licenses:

  • CPR and First Aid certification (paid by SFB).
  • Fire extinguisher certification.

Other:

  • Employment subject to a successful FBI and CA DOJ background check and fingerprinting.
