POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Property Manager, the Janitor is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, sanitation, and maintenance of a residential building. The Janitor plays a crucial role in creating a safe, healthy, and dignified living environment for residents by performing routine and deep cleaning, maintaining common areas, and addressing minor maintenance needs. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to fostering a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Performs cleaning, sanitizing and custodial service as instructed by supervisor.
  • Cleans and maintains all common areas, including hallways, lobbies, elevators, stairwells, laundry rooms, and restrooms.
  • Ensures that trash and recycling are collected and disposed of properly.
  • Maintains floors by sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and buffing as necessary.
  • Cleans windows, walls, and other surfaces to maintain a presentable and hygienic environment.
  • Responds to janitorial and light maintenance requests from management and residents as needed.
  • Monitors inventory of cleaning supplies and reports needs for replenishment.
  • Conducts regular inspections of the building to identify safety hazards or maintenance issues and reports them promptly.
  • Assists with minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, unclogging drains, and performing simple repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations by properly handling cleaning chemicals and maintaining a clean work environment.
  • Assists in setting up rooms or common areas for events or meetings as needed.
  • Engage with residents in a professional and respectful manner, fostering a sense of community and dignity.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the janitorial or maintenance trade fields.
  • Display behavior that supports the mission, vision and values of ECS.
  • Communicate effectively to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Effectively communicate in written and verbal forms of communication.
  • Participate and help foster an environment that honors, respects and values the opinions and suggestions of others.
  • Knowledge of practices, procedures, materials, equipment and supplies used in the cleaning and sanitizing trades.

OTHER:

Must secure finger image screening and annual TB screening. Must be able to meet physical requirements of the position which may include lifting of up to 50 lbs.
